Sony has announced the NEX_FS700 pro-grade 4k-capable E-mount camcorder. The camera will initially offer 1080p video, switchable between 50Hz and 60Hz frame rates (including 60p, 50p, 60i and 24p). A later upgrade will enable 4k capture and Raw output from its built-in 3G-SDI connector. The camera is also able to capture slow-motion footage, shooting at up to 960 fps at reduced resolution (240fps in Full HD). It also offers built-in 2- and 4-stop ND filters (which can be combined), to allow lenses to be used at wide apertures in bright light.
Last week I sent out a series of emails to friends and acquaintances from the world of photojournalism and multimedia asking them for their reactions to this year’s World Press Photo multimedia awards (originally reported here ). I know them all but I didn’t pick them because they adhere to any particular viewpoint: What all the respondents share is a passion for photography and storytelling. I wanted a larger geographical spread and tried to enlist others from underrepresented regions – without too much success. I have my own fairly strong views on the competition and the direction in which newspaper and news website multimedia is heading – I have not sought to promote those here.

Thanks to a great editorial team we were able to improve our Crowd Fusion platform , which now powers large scale websites like TMZ and applications like News Corp's The Daily. AMAZING! I joked about an idea like this with people… bags that could protect my camera when needed, disappear to nearly nothing when i’m using the camera? Inflatableness to the rescue?!?! Kata ABS-HD inflatable protective casing comes folded up in a pouch. I love that they say “When on board with your camcorder it takes approximately 1 minute to inflate, wrap up your camcorder and stow it in the over head bin.” So you can basically sneak on seeming like you have very little, then poof you fill the bin?
