Why is e-learning important at Brookes? We believe in the potential of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) to provide wider, fairer access to higher education and to further enrich the student learning experience by enabling flexible, student-centred learning opportunities. A key component of e-learning at Brookes is Brookes Virtual, the University's integrated Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), currently powered by Blackboard and associated technologies.
Brookes Virtual adds a new dimension to the delivery of the University's courses to campus-based and distance learners. What is the extent of e-learning at Brookes? Over 19458 students and 683 staff in over 1181 courses currently make use of Brookes Virtual. (Figures accurate at time of publishing: April 2006) The Information Processes and Systems Strategy (IPSS) is working to further integrate Brookes Virtual into the University's business systems. Learning Technology Team The Learning Technology Team Support Levels| The Learning Technology Team are responsible for evaluating, promoting, developing and supporting the use of technology enhanced learning, in partnership with staff and students.
The team’s key drivers are the Learning and Teaching Strategy, Technology Enhanced Learning Strategy and Higher Standards of Teaching and Academic Support plan. The team currently comprise of a Head of Learning Technology, four full-time learning technologists and one 0.6 technologists, who support staff in the faculties to plan, develop, use and evaluate technology enhanced learning. The team are supported by two Learning Technology Support Officers who are responsible for the technical systems administration and second line specialist support for staff. Moodle Help. Moodle is Your Online Learning Environment Many courses at UVic are using Moodle for course resources, collaboration, communication, sharing, activities, and critical reflection.
However, if instructors simply want to use it as a repository of course reading materials, it can be that too - it is entirely up to the instructor how they decide to use (or not use) this learning management system. You will use the same Netlink username and password you have been given to access a variety of UVic online systems to access Moodle.
