Karthigai Deepam Festival of Light in Tiruvannamalai. Karthigai Deepam, a Tamil festival is essentially a festival of the lamps.

It is celebrated in the Tamil month of Karthigai (november-december). Deepam is one of the oldest festival in South India and is celebrated with great fervor by people who gather from all around the state. For the last three days, there was between 5 and 10 millions people gathered in Tiruvannamalai and on the 14 kilometers road around the Arunachala Hill.

During the nine first days, pujas (ceremonies) are held inside Arunachaleswarar Temple, and gods are carried out by devotees and put on chariots. Some are pulled by tractors, others, the older ones, are pulled by men and women. The biggest chariot is around 16 meters high and weight over 40 tons! Another chariot, smaller, is only pulled by women. On the night of the 9th day, a big puja is held all night long in the crowded inner temple and by 5 am, the swamis (priests) come out with the fire and bless the gods. The End is Nigh – Human Planet | Timothy Allen | BBC Photography Blog.

Human Planet The soul of a journey is liberty, perfect liberty, to think, feel, do just as one pleases After a year and a half of non-stop traveling with Human Planet, it appears that for me this particular journey is now over. It’s been an amazing experience and one that has brought me into contact with our incredibly diverse species across almost every inhabitable environment on the planet.

I’m sure you won’t be too surprised to learn that I can report back that human beings are the same the world over… individuals dealing with their own versions of personal struggles to secure food, find a mate, put a roof over their heads and protect their offspring. I’m also sure that you won’t be too shocked to discover that no matter where I went in the world, doors were opened to me, food was shared with me, knowledge was exchanged freely and help was offered unconditionally.

David Schlesinger, the Reuters editor-in-chief, dared today to ask whether journalists need to reassess their "need to be in the midst of danger.

" In a keynote address to the International News & Safety Institute (INSI) "Live and Tell" debate in Athens, he said: "As journalists we have an instinctual compulsion to be where the action is. Photographers and cameramen, in particular, need to get the shot to record reality for history. That's a dictum that is fundamental to our craft. But is it fit for purpose? Is it fit for today? In an age when a gunship in the air can fire from up to four kilometres away, must the journalist be on the ground? Schlesinger set his remarks in the context of the killing in Iraq in 2007 of two Reuters journalists, Namir Noor-Eldeen and Saeed Chmagh. They were among a group of people who died after being fired on from two US Apache helicopters.

"Let's be honest. This may be wonderful for journalism but has "frightening as implications for safety. " His answer? Marco Di Lauro. Ce neuvième numéro est loin de la dynamique causée par la rencontre humaine mais il propose une démarche paysagiste qui n’est pas de tout repos. Toutes les photographies proposées mettent en avant une structure abandonnée et délaissée par notre société. The original Holga camera has very few controls, a 2 speed shutter, 2 apertures and very basic focusing ring. Holga D is aimed for similar rudimentary controls, but as it's a digital camera and as it has a electronic shutter there are some change in functionalities in order to make it useful. On one side of the top panel there is a big shutter release key, and on the other side a same sized E-Ink display. Surrounding these there are two ring-dials for ISO and shutter speed control. There is a power-key on next to the shutter speed dial. On the back panel there is a key to select between 3:2 or square aspect ratio, this is inspired from existing Holga cameras aspect ratio selector and film counter slider.

On the front panel there is a push button for unlocking the lens. At the bottom there is a key to select color and black or white mode. Spaghetti escape. Address Is Approximate. Demotix.
