Morbus Crohn. Morbus Crohn gehört zur Gruppe der chronisch-entzündlichen Darmerkrankungen. Es handelt sich um eine chronisch-granulomatöse Entzündung, die im gesamten Verdauungstrakt von der Mundhöhle bis zum After auftreten kann.
Bevorzugt befallen sind der untere Dünndarm (terminales Ileum) und der Dickdarm (Colon), seltener die Speiseröhre (Ösophagus) und der Mund. Charakterisierend für Morbus Crohn ist der diskontinuierliche, segmentale Befall (sog. skip lesions) der Darmschleimhaut, es können also gleichzeitig mehrere Darmabschnitte erkrankt sein, die durch gesunde Abschnitte voneinander getrennt sind. Das Krankheitsbild wurde zweimal unabhängig voneinander beschrieben, 1904 vom polnischen Chirurgen Antoni Leśniowski (1867–1940) und 1932 vom US-amerikanischen Magen- und Darmspezialisten Burrill Bernard Crohn (1884–1983), nach dem die Krankheit benannt wurde. CD is a chronic relapsing and remitting gastrointestinal condition that is characterized by inflammation, which is associated with abdominal pain, diarrhea and fatigue. In the double-blind randomized placebo-controlled study, 27 patients with CD in remission were assigned to take 2,000 IUs per day of vitD for three months. At the three-month mark, researchers found that those with 25(OH)D greater than 75 nmol/L had a higher LL-37 concentrations, higher QoL, lower CRP and non-significantly lower CDAI scores than those that had a 25(OH)D lower than 75 nmol/L.
