ROB BENNET. JAN SAUDEK. JERRY TAKIGAWA. RUTH THORNE-THOMPSON. Ruth Thorne-Thomsen’s pinhole photography is borne out of the universality of mankind, our myths, dreams and archetypes, those pictures in our heads that follow no path, have no respect for boundaries, cultural or otherwise but rather are representative of all of us. She describes her work as environmental collage and often incorporates handmade miniature props such as cardboard silhouettes, cones, pyramids and ships into her pictures creating scenarios that recall early images of intrepid colonial expeditions across foreign lands with an aesthetic that borrows much from the surrealists.

Infact, her work reminds me of the French surrealist photographer Gilbert Garcin who also plays with sets and manipulates perspective and size. It is beautiful work, she has the uncanny ability to create a world that you want to know more about, a landscape of the imagination that we all want to walk through. GILBERT AND GEORGE.
