APPLICATIONS will be accepted until all positions are filled DECISIONS will begin April 7 Summer Research Experience: May 27 - August 4, 2014 The Department of Biology at Tufts University offers a NSF funded summer research program entitled "Integrative approaches to studying recognition systems in cells, organisms, and populations" in which 10 students will work closely on a collaborative, interdisciplinary project. Students in this 10-week program will receive a stipend of $500 per week, a $100 allotment for food, and on-campus housing ($6,000 total).
The Department of Biology has a long-standing commitment to mentoring undergraduates in research, as well as a strong track record of highly productive interdisciplinary research collaborations. The Coastal Systems Program has opportunities for interns to participate as part of the research effort in summer and throughout the academic year (contingent on funding availability).
Research areas include water quality monitoring, nutrient cycling, coastal ecosystems and wetlands ecology. Interns participate in a wide range of field and laboratory work, including but not limited to nearshore and offshore sampling, citizen-based environmental monitoring, maintenance of long-term experiments in wetlands, sample preparation, and a wide variety of laboratory analytical procedures. Successful candidates should be capable of working both independently and as part of a team. Students selected for placement in the NHRE program will be given full details about their specific research mentor, department, and project in the offer letter.
