Pearltrees and Social Curation - Canning with Kids

Today I want to tell people a little bit about a new tool I am totally addicted to psyched about. It's a social curation tool. http://canningwithkids.com/blog/2010/11/pearltrees-and-social-curation.html
Pearltrees , a leading online content social curation tool, today announced their latest release: Beta 0.7.3, which has added substantial feature updates and performance enhancements, including the ability to browse web pages faster than through a traditional browser. Users can navigate from pearl to pearl (web page to web page) faster than browsing through a traditional browser. Pearltrees has been able to make this possible by pre-fetching content of all the associated links you are browsing, resulting in dramatically speedier navigation. The content loads in the background, so that when you click on the link, the new page (or video or audio) opens instantly, rather than having to wait for the page to load.

Pearl-ing with pearltrees (A Spectrum of Reviews)

http://www.karianna.us/reviews/2010/11/pearl-ing_with_pearltrees.html Okay, so when I was invited to a " pearltrees " event, I envisioned something like bath beads, or - the obvious one - jewelry. I thought of an ornate wire tree sculpture upon which to hang my beautiful pearl necklaces (of which I have zero.) But, the Clever Girls Collective said that pearltrees was going to somehow help me shop, and since the event was co-hosted by Beth Blecherman of TechMamas and Cool Mom Tech , I knew it had something to do with technology. But how? Well, here is how.

http://techcrunch.com/2010/06/24/3rd-round-of-funding-for-pearltrees-another-e1-3-million/ Chances are, you’ve already heard of Pearltrees - possibly because the company caught attention when it sponsored LeWeb in Paris or more recently the Web 2.0 Expo in San Francisco. And if you haven’t, now is the right time to acquaint yourself with the service: the French start-up founded in 2008 has just scored another €1.3 million in funding to change the way you navigate the web.

Pearltrees grabs another €1.3 million

Paris, France (CNN) -- With more than 2,000 Internet movers and shakers, the LeWeb conference in Paris is an ideal spot for start-up ventures to hoping to attract the investment and attention that will propel them to Twitter or Facebook-style success. A series of stalls across the venue -- a giant arts complex converted from a disused morgue -- saw fresh-faced entrepreneurs demonstrating gadgets and applications they insisted will change the way we interface with the Internet. These might just be the inventions that everyone will be talking about next year or they could simply slip below the radar. Either way, all will face the same question still being leveled at today's household names -- can they make money? While most insisted they could generate genuine revenue for their start-ups, others were more even-handed about their prospects.

[France] Paris-based Pearltrees has been catching interest around the web the last few days not least because a gaggle influential Silicon Valley bloggers have descended on Paris for Le Web , but mainly because of its interesting model for visually mapping how people collect and share information on the Web. But today the startup opens the kimono on its full system. They will announce two new things today: Twitter synchronization (enabling a user to create a pearl automatically from Twitter and to tweet automatically from their new Pearltrees), Pearltrees search, Real time discussion and connection. http://techcrunch.com/2009/12/09/pearltrees-launches-twitter-sync-and-reveals-its-social-system/

Patrice Lamothe is the CEO of PearlTrees , an unique social bookmarking service that uses the visual metaphor of "pearls" with each containing a web page. And like all visual metaphors it is best to see it rather than read a description. Here is a quick video and a sample image: "PearlTrees is a way for people to map the Internet by collecting related web pages.
Summary: Pearltrees is a new web service that brings a social twist to bookmarking A French Web site, called Pearltrees , is developing a Web service that is trying to bring a social networking element to bookmarking - but with the connections based on content instead of people. Think Facebook and Twitter mixed with one Amazon’s recommendation system.
