The following procedure assumes that your Mamiya 7 was at one time in good, known focus.

Mamiya 7 Rangefinder Adjustment

This is NOT a re-columniation, though I’ll cover that under another procedure. If you’ve ever browsed for Mamiya 7 things on e-B$y you’ve probably noticed folks selling a rangefinder adjustment kit for as much as $50. That’s a bit much. I went to Lisbon last year and noticed that after I stuck the 150mm lens on the camera, the rangefinder was off in both vertical and the horizontal. It wasn’t much, but it was noticeable and with the 150mm being notoriously difficult to focus wide open, I wanted the camera right. I went to the Columbo mall and then to Aki to buy a set of jewelers screwdrivers (6 Euros)… Be aware that Mamiya themselves have posted a procedure on their user forum site, but it’s hard to find, and I didn’t, at the time, have the benefit of looking for it, deciding to handle the matter in hand, so to speak. Here are some things you can try to get your colorhead back in operating condition. 1) Filter plates: These need to adjusted so they stay in contact with the color wheel cams. There is a screw at the top of the stack of filter plates that goes through the curved slot on the top of each color plate. This screw acts as a guide and keeps the plates in a flat position. If this screw is too tight, the spring can't pull the plate into contact with the cam. I suspect that one or both of these screws are so tight that the spring can't pull the plate in contact with the cam. 2) Be sure the lever on the right end is set for HIGH in the panel window. Then use a Phillips head screwdriver to loosen the bottom pivot screw about 1/4 turn.

Then turn the Magenta color wheel to 175. The Magenta wheel is on the far right, but the magenta plate is on the far left. Did the Magenta color plate contact the cam? You may have to make several adjustments of the two screws to get it to work perfectly. Ollinger's Guide to Photographic Enlargers: Repairing a Chromegatrol Timer. I simply wanted to write this down in case anyone else finds it useful in the future. Information on this type of equipment is scarce so this bit may be of value to someone someday. I apologize for not having illustrations, but it did not occur to me to take photos until the unit was repaired. Réparation d’appareils photo numériques et argentiques : Photo ciné Réparation.
