Glass options for Nikon 9000 with 120 negs - Photo.net Digital Darkroom Forum

I see that there are a few options for using glass to maintain flatness of 120 negatives. After only a couple of scans last night with the standard 869S I haven't noticed any problems, but I'm anticipating them based on comments from this forum. Using glass is to avoid focus problems, right? Or is it to avoid Newton Rings? Or both? I've see that another option is to take the standard 120 holder (FH-869S) and buy glass from Focal Point for it. What do people think of the wet-mount options for the 9000? Ellis Vener , Mar 05, 2009; 08:57 a.m. if you want near drum quality scans fro mthe Coolscan 9000 you needto use the AZTEK fluid mount holder withthe KAMI fluid and mylars. next you needto get better scanning software: LaserSoft SilverFast AI6 Studio and scan at 16 bit per channel deth using a large color space . And finally you need a really, really good target to build your scanner profile from. DIY Glass holder for Nikon 9000 - Photo.net Digital Darkroom Forum.

This was discussed some years ago - and I am about to try using a strip of non reflective glass in my 6x6 Holder to hold my negatives flat. But before I jump on to that idea: Has anyone run into trouble with this DIY method? Does the film or glass move around with with all the vibrations I hear in the Nikon 9000? Anyone broken a DIY glass within the scanner? Craig Cooper , May 22, 2008; 02:14 a.m. John, I have played around with a few versions of doing this; there are other good versions archived on this site if you search (even if you search back through my posts for the topic you should find some of the names involved). I wish to purchase a Glass holder for a Nikon Coolscan 9000 since their standard MF holder is a horror. I see that Nikon appears to make two of them (FH-869G and FH-869-GR and am unclear of the advantage of one vs the other. I wish to mainly do batch scanning of 6x4.5 and 6x9 images? What is the advantage (and disadvantages) of the rotating holder? Does it also take 35 mm film? I write from Italy. In Europe Nikon FH-869G costs much more then USA. I would like to know more about the FH-869S glassless holder converted into a glassholder with the 2 anti newton glasses. I saw Focal Point on the web have glasses for Nikon FH-869S. Do you know if is it easy to held the glasses on the holder? Peter Weimann. After seeing many questions recently about getting film flat with the non glass holder, the unreasonable expense of the 2 nikon glass holders and the problems with Newtons rings and mask sizes with odd film sizes i thought I would provide my solution which costs peanuts. A picture as they say is worth a 1000 words so see the attachment. Basicaly you remove the clamping mechanism from the standard film holder and get 2 plates of 2mm (or less if you can get it) non reflective glass cut to fit the space (make sure this is only textured on 1 side and some glass is more frosted than others -get the least textured you can find) You may need to put some tape on the ends to stop the top glass sliding off. After leaving my Coolscan 9000 on overnight I fed in the 35mm neg tray and once the scanner had taken it in, the scanner began to loudly make repeated banging sounds. The tray will not eject and it continues to loudly bang if I turn it on. Has anyone else had a tray get stuck? Well after a few hours of fiddling around and trying to work an easy way to modify an FH-869S film carrier to accept glass; this is what I ended up with. Its all rather simple. Firstly, I removed the two side clamps theat come with teh standard FH-869S, then removed the thin rubber strips that grip the film on the bottom. Then I replaced these rubber strips with a thin foam-type double-side tape and trimmed it to fit. Next I screwed down the existing screws - which usually allow the film clamp on one side to float - so that it is fixed in one place just wide enough to accept the glass. With a piece of film and AN glass on top, I positioned one of the shown metal file fastners and drilled two holes at the film stop end.

Similar holes were drilled towards the back end of the carrier - one on one side and two on the other. Finally, with a straight edge I checked that nothing is sitting above the edge rails of the film carrier. Rich 815. Nikon 9000 ED - AN glass Wet/Dry - Photo.net Digital Darkroom Forum. Hi.. To follow on some other topics concerning glass holders for the Nikon 9000ED I was wondering if it's reasonably possible to get Anti-Newton Glass for the stock MF holder that would work for both dry and wet scanning. The Scan Science solution seems to only work for wet mount due to N-rings on dry scans.
