While each father or father figure has his own way of celebrating, The Plaza at Preston Center celebrated this year’s holiday by rewarding The Most Deserving Dad with more than $1,000 of prizes to make his Father’s Day special. The Plaza asked children, wives and friends to nominate their fathers or father figures by submitting a video or essay about why he is so special.
The Plaza’s celebrity judging panel, consisting of Kent Rathbun, celebrity chef; Gene Gates, radio host; and Eric Nicholson, writer; had many deserving men to choose from including one singing video entry about a dad who is "poppin. " In the end, Coppell resident Steve Smith was named this year’s deserving dad contest winner. Steve had no idea his two sons, Benjamin and Harrison, and his wife, Kim, entered him in the contest.
