6,500-Year-Old 'Noah' Skeleton Discovered in Museum Basement

Museum staff recently rediscovered a 6,500-year- old human skeleton that's been boxed up in the basement for 85 years. Tucked away in a storeroom, the wooden box had no identifying numbers or catalog card. But a recent effort to digitalize some of the museum's old records brought forth new information about the mysterious box's history and the skeleton, nicknamed "Noah," inside. The human remains inside the box were originally unearthed between 1929 and 1930 at the site of Ur in modern-day Iraq by Sir Leonard Woolley and his team of archaeologists from the Penn and British Museums, according to the records. [See Images of the Ur Skeleton and Historical Excavation] Woolley's excavation is best known for uncovering the famous Mesopotamian "royal cemetery," which included hundreds of graves and 16 tombsladen with cultural artifacts.

The photographs appear to depict a set of enormous megaliths and Dr Uvarov is convinced they are man-made structures. Others, however, have argued that they are simple a rare example of the power and wonder of Mother Nature. An expedition headed by Georgy Sidorov was undertaken a team of 19 researchers following information about the existence of a large number of strange megalithic objects on Gornaya Shoria, a mountain reaching 1,100 metres above sea level, and situated in a remote part of Russia which had previously been blocked off by checkpoints during the era of the Soviet Union.

Doggerland – Mapping a lost world

So you think the flooding of landmass by the oceans is a new? So you must have not heard of the times when people walked from London to Amsterdam. Doggerland is the name of a vast plain that joined Britain to Europe for nearly 12,000 years, until sea levels began rising dramatically after the last Ice Age.Taking its name from a prominent shipping hazard—Dogger Bank—this immense landbridge vanished beneath the North Sea around 6000 B.C. Like all landbridges, Doggerland seems to have been a pretty busy thoroughfare for ancient hunters and gatherers. But archaeologists hardly gave it a thought until 2002, when a small group of British researchers laid hands on seismic survey data collected by the petroleum industry in the North Sea.

It is thought that the sea level rose no faster than about one or two meters per century, and that the land would have disappeared in a series of punctuated inundations. Prehistoric North Sea 'Atlantis' hit by 5m tsunami

The wave was generated by a catastrophic subsea landslide off the coast of Norway. Analysis suggests the tsunami over-ran Doggerland, a low-lying landmass that has since vanished beneath the waves. "It was abandoned by Mesolithic tribes about 8,000 years ago, which is when the Storegga slide happened," said Dr Jon Hill from Imperial College London. Continue reading the main story. Mega Disasters Of The Past. Megaliths Discovered in Southern Siberia, Russia. Arkaim: Russia's Stonehenge and a Puzzle of the Ancient World. Everyone’s heard of Stonehenge. You could probably venture into the Amazonian jungle and seek out an untouched tribe of hunter-gatherers, spend months gaining their trust and learning their language, fighting off dysentery while you’re at it, and when their chief finally makes you an honorary member of their society, against the emphatic advice of his shaman, you could ask them if they’ve heard of Stonehenge, and the answer would probably be: yes. Some might say that’s overstating the matter a touch, but the point stands. The sarsen stones of Wiltshire are famous; they’ve made their way into popular culture the world over.

Though, would it surprise you to know that Stonehenge isn’t the only megalithic stone circle in the world? Probably not, but most don’t realise that there are somewhere on the order of 5000 stone circles around the world. Great Britain boasts a large number of these Neolithic sites, but they don’t have a monopoly on henges, as they’re called over there. Arkaim - the Cradle of Aryan Civilization IVedas and Human DNA.
