Bongo man dances his way out - Local - The Scarborough News. Scarborough's Pub Idol Competition lost one of its crowd pleasers as Justin Mhaka became the latest act to leave. The smiling singer, known as Bongo Man, who regularly had the crowds on their feet dancing along to his Reggae style, was voted out of the competition with a split decision from judges following a tense sing-off against Lee Major. His elimination means five acts are now left in the competition and will be performing in next week's semi final for a chance to win the 1,000 prize and CD deal.

The competition, which is supported by the Scarborough Evening News, takes place each Wednesday evening at Zest in St Thomas Street. This week the acts had to perform three songs including one from the 1980's and one which they would like to appear on their CD if they win. In the sing-off Justin went first and sang Hot Hot Hot by Arrow with the crowd dancing around to the summer hit. Lee then took to the stage and sang the song he performed earlier in the evening called Angel By The Sea.
