Skyward House / acaa

It took some thinking for me to visualize a house standing in the middle of grass land. The house needed to provide a sense of protection since it would be the client’s final home. It also needed to be supple to blend with the surrounding natural environment. Standing in this rich land, I wanted the house to have a sturdy and fragile presence at the same time. The adjacent street has almost no pedestrian traffic, but buses pass by a few times a day, and there is relatively heavy car traffic. Tiny NYC Apartment Renovation Full of Nooks and Cubbies. How do you make a tiny New York City apartment into a livable 240-square foot space with a sleeping loft?

Tiny NYC Apartment Renovation Full of Nooks and Cubbies

You enlist the help of Brooklyn architect Tim Seggerman, who renovated this Upper West Side brownstone studio into what it is today. The space was in poor shape to begin with so they incorporated blond woods to build the interior out, including the loft over the kitchen. A nook creates a cubby-like library to crawl into. Can you believe they were able to fit a washing machine in there?! To see the entire space, visit Dwell. Photos by David Engelhardt. Beerchitecture: Modern Pubs For St. Patrick’s Day. St.

Workshop kitchen + bar lighting by .PSLAB

Description from .PSLAB .PSLAB’s primary aim was to highlight the multiple sections that comprised the site all the while integrating with the restaurant’s unique industrial style. The restaurant, characterized with a high cathedral-like ceiling required a lighting intervention that was both minimal and fits with the interior’s modern concept. The lighting interventions differed depending on the sections; however the light fixtures used for each section followed the same style to maintain the concept of one single space.

A major insertion was made to the restaurant’s ridge beam, in the form of suspended black metal rods equipped at its extremity with a light bulb. Table-mounted light fixtures were used for the seating booths to add depth to these sections. Lighting Designers: .PSLAB. Interior Inspiration: 12 Kitchens with Color. It being March, we’ve got spring on the mind — light, white, airy, clean.

Interior Inspiration: 12 Kitchens with Color

But what about color? Not Easter egg hues, mind you, but rich and clear shots of gorgeousness. While white kitchens can’t miss in both classic and contemporary interiors, we dare you to diverge. These twelve kitchens do color well. Sunset Point Residence by David Vandervort Architects

Description from the architects: Perched on a San Juan Island shoreline, this 2,365 sqft home looks northwest over Sunset Bay, Haro Strait, and occasional whales passing by. In order to utilize this small, medium bank waterfront property to best advantage, the home was designed with two mirroring curved glass walls that frame views, and let maximum light into the home. The architecture is composed of two pavilions arranged to embrace the site and the natural forces acting upon it. Designed for a couple seeking comfort and security, the exterior materials allude to island appropriate but substantial design, with CMU block, naturally stained cedar siding, hot rolled steel and metal roof being the predominant elements.

These materials are brought inside as structure and accent, with the great room fireplace set in CMU and steel columns evident throughout. Featured Project: House Van Leeuwen By JagerJanssen.
