Starbucks Cups Used as Drawing Canvas. EmailEmail A young Japanese illustrator Tomoko Shintani has added a little bit more charm to the already beloved Starbucks coffee cups by turning them into cute 3D comics series. “There was no particular reason or idea. I just drew on a cup because it was ‘paper,’” says Tomoko. Her drawings feature a little girl, usually accompanied by her pet cat, having fun in different settings. Tomoko’s little doodles start on a piece of paper and use a coffee cup as part of the canvas – that way she creates a slight anamorphic effect. The artist says one drawing takes her about an hour, which is around the same time you’d spend on a nice tall late, so have one and find your inspiration! Website: web.stagram.com, facebook. Cinematic Upside Down Street Reflections.

There's something incredibly fascinating about viewing the world through upside down reflections, taken through puddles on the street. it's like we're seeing the world with a new set of eyes, a perspective most of us are not really used to. It may take a second or two for your eyes to get adjusted to what's really going on. "They’re all untouched, except the 5th one (but it’s still a very light cropping)," explains photographer Yodamanu aka Manuel Plantin. "I shoot it as I frame it, cropped a lot, they wouldn’t make sense. It’s about seeing the reality the other way round on purpose. It’s not about shooting blind before cropping a lot. " "It’s fun trying because it’s challenging to frame something upside down while you focus 'upside up' - you have to try to see what I mean. Yodamanu on Tumblr. Alexa Meade Submerges Her Subject in a Pool of Milk.

Always one to push her creative boundaries, artist Alexa Meade recently experimented by painting on her subject and then submerging her into a pool of milk. After connecting with performance artist Sheila Vand through the internet, Alexa used her signature portraiture style of painting but decided that, this time, her canvas would be the white liquid we all grew up with. The incredible collaboration, their first joint release, is called “MILK: what will you make of me?” You can read more about this at Wired UK. Here's an excerpt. "It was a line that would merge her into background, the subject was something created to stand out from the background, the background was created to bleed into subject. " Make sure to watch the interesting and well produced behind the scenes video, below. Neon installation by joseph kosuth references james joyce's finnegans wake | designboom. " Though she's skilled at capturing everything from landscapes to portraits, it's her quirky conceptual photos of clouds that caught our attention.

The miniature white masses seem to magically float over a glass cup and a pair of hands as they send down showers and snow. 'With these images, I wanted to capture as much in camera as I could, as it adds to the realism, rather than relying on Photoshop too much later on," Wright tells us when we asked her how she created these photos. "Everything you see in the images is real, bar the snow falling, which is a snowfall texture layer in Photoshop. The 'rain' in the glass is actually hairspray, and the snow in the hands is fake snow - the kind you mix up with water. "The clouds are made from cotton wool, the pleats of which you usually buy at pharmacies to wipe your face with. Sarah Ann Wright's website. Fabian oefner: dancing colors - making sound waves visible | designboom. Nov 23, 2012 fabian oefner: dancing colors making sound waves visible ‘dancing colors’ by fabian oefnerall images courtesy of the artist bridging the gap between the acoustic and visual world, fabian oefner‘s ‘dancing colors’ express sound waves through explosions of colored pigments, their movement a result of music pulsing through a speaker. the swiss artist wraps the device in a thin foil of plastic and places the powderon its top surface. when the box receives a sound, the film begins vibrating, causing the colored matter to explode and shoot into the air in a symphonic manner. it is these moments – which last only a fraction of a second – that oefner captures. the process involves the artist attaching a microphone to the speaker, picking up sound at which point a signal is sent to a connected flash system, triggering the lights to illuminate these ephemeral instances. colored pigment is placed on speakers, the vibration of sound causing the matter to explode into the air.

Breathtaking Aerial Photography by Klaus Leidorf. EmailEmail There are many different ways to find peace – while some of us meditate, there are those who choose to pilot a plane and take pictures out the open window at the same time. Meet Klaus Leidorf, a 50-year-old aerial archaeologist from Germany, who takes stunning overhead photos while flying his Cesna 172. When Klaus started doing this back in 1989, his Contax camera wouldn’t allow him to capture very detailed shots – now, however, with his DSLR cameras (EOS 1DS Mark III and EOS 5D Mark II), his photographs are incredibly precise.

What excites Klaus the most about being up in the sky is the chance to see the Earth from a different perspective. Website: leidorf.de | 500px | flickr. Famous Old Photos Recreated in Color by Sanna Dullaway. EmailEmail Ever thought what was the color of Abraham Lincoln’s hair? Most of us probably see him in black and white in our minds because of all the old pictures, yet a Swedish artist Sanna Dullaway decided to give the past a high resolution color makeover. She retouched some historic and iconic pictures we’ve grown so familiar with, and recreated them in color. Sanna presented these pictures as a way to promote her services of photo restoration.

What was intended to showcase her great photoshop skills, instantly went viral and turned into a huge debate on mocking the past. Some users got really upset with Sanna inventing the coloring of the historic moments, while others appreciated how she brought back the emotional impact of the scenes.
