Members[edit] The Nips. Career[edit] Following the release of their first single, "King of the Bop"/"Nervous Wreck", in June 1978, on Soho Records, the band renamed themselves The Nips and released the garage punk classic "All The Time in the World"/"Private Eye" with Phil Rowland of Eater on drums. By May 1979, the band's line up had changed to include Gavin "Fritz" Douglas, on guitar. The Power pop anthem, "Gabrielle" was released in November 1979, first on Soho Records, and then reissued on Chiswick Records. with John ("Grinny") Grinton (ex Skrewdriver) on drums.

By the time of its release, Grinny had been replaced by Roger Travis Williams. Gavin Douglas' guitar playing on this record marked a change in the band's sound to a more melodic style. Led by enigmatic songwriter Paul "Mad Dog" McGuinness, The Popes is a band originally formed by Shane MacGowan (of the Pogues) and Paul "Mad Dog" McGuinness, who play a blend of rock, Irish folk and Americana. Shane MacGowan & The Popes released two studio and one live album in the 1990s, performing live together until 2005. During this era, The Popes also recorded and gigged on their own until 2006.

At the end of 2006, guitarist Paul "Mad Dog" McGuiness reformed the band in his own right, introducing his own critically acclaimed songs, and leads it to this day with drummer Will Morrison, guitarist Ian Bramble, violinist Dave Allen and bass player Greg Courtney. History[edit] 1992-1998: Shane MacGowan & The Popes[edit] After departing The Pogues, singer Shane MacGowan put together a new band, started with a group of people from The Pogues' extended family. Of this initial line-up, only McGuiness and McManamon would last the entirety of Shane MacGowan's tenure with the group. Trivia[edit] Dropkick Murphys. Flogging Molly. History[edit] Early years[edit] In 1993, King met guitarist Ted Hutt, bassist Jeff Peters, and fiddle player Bridget Regan and put together a rock band with a Celtic feel. They began to play a mix of Irish traditional and rock.

Putting Dave's poetic lyrics to rocking melodies, they played at a Los Angeles pub called Molly Malone's weekly building a small but loyal following. Together they wrote songs such as Black Friday Rule and Devil's Dance Floor, which was the beginning of Flogging Molly's unique[citation needed] sound. Ted and Jeff then left Flogging Molly because an earlier band of theirs received a record deal. They continued a routine of playing every Monday night at Molly Malone's. Career[edit] Dave King performing live in Budapest - 2011 Musical style[edit] Flogging Molly's music is influenced by artists such as The Dubliners, The Pogues, Horslips, Johnny Cash, and The Clash.
