A new kind of goo! Rainbow Bubble SnakesHousing a Forest. Summer is here and our family is SO excited! The kids are planning and scheming about what we are going to do this summer. Love it! One of the fun activities that they wanted to try was making bubble snakes that are all over. The best part is they are easy to make and use things that I had laying around my house. Perfect! Start by cutting the bottom of the water bottle off.

Pour some dish soap into a shallow container with a little bit of water and gently mix. We decided to add some color to the bubble snakes with food coloring. Annika added a rubber band to hers as well as the tape. Rainbow snakes were definitely a hit in our house! Please remind your kids to blow air out not suck air in! Create kids crafts in your kitchen - Frugal Village - Frugal Village. Craft recipes are fun to make. They’re ideal for preschool classrooms or as boredom busters for kids at home.

In a previous column (www.frugalvillage.com/2011/02/14/make-craft-recipes-for-kids/), I shared recipes for chalk and mock silly putty, and readers requested more. While some craft recipes aren’t cheaper than their retail counterparts, it’s still a lot of fun and educational for kids to create and explore. Mix 9 cups extra fine, colored play sand. How To Make Bubble Paper/Art | DIY Maven. Hand me a paintbrush and a piece of paper, and I’ll start to hyperventilate.

It’s not the paper that does it. It’s the paintbrush. This means I’ll try just about anything to create original paper/art images using just about anything BUT a paintbrush. This latest experiment involved a bottle of bubbles and black ink. Check it out: Here’s the complete list of what I used to make my bubble paper: bubbles ($1 for 3 at the Dollar Store)printer paper (although watercolor paper would be super cool too)a sinka small container to mix the ink and bubbles Here’s what I did: Mixed about 1 part ink to 4 parts bubbles in a small container. Laid the paper in the bottom of a dry sink. Started blowing bubbles over the paper. Now, there’s not much control here. Then something like this happens, and life is good. I used one such bubble burst to make this card, centering the burst inside the cut area.

I’m definitely going to do this again using different colored inks. Like this: Like Loading... Draw Cartoon Animals. Fun Winter Kids' Crafts. Fun with Foam Printing - Easy Tutorial. I loved this idea because not only can you recycle these horrid polystyrene containers, but the process is really simple. You could even use tracing paper and trace your design so you don't even need to be able to draw. You could make a whole series of cards like this or just a colorful print to hang on your wall and cheer up the place. HOW TO: geometric ornaments + GIVEAWAY | Snow and Graham. I love a good paper ornament project, and I especially like one that allows you to use up bits and pieces of paper that are too big to toss and too little to use. This ornament takes a bit of time, but I truly believe that the sum is greater than the parts in that you are left with a keepsake that will hang from your tree for years to come.

A little background on this project: Years ago we developed a holiday kit series that included this ornament as its crown jewel. It was darling and we had lots of customers who were ready to stock them in their stores. Unfortunately the labor to assemble the product as we envisioned it was too pricey for us to bring it to market. The good news for the first 50 readers who leave a comment below is that we would like to GIVEAWAY the parts to make this ornament! Leave a comment here on this blog post and sign up for our mailing list and we will send you die-cut and scored supplies to make this project. Tags: Christmas, diy, wrapping paper.

UPDATE: This post originally ran on March 23 2011, but with summer winding down we wanted to bring it back up for some late summer inspiration! A fellow fp girl sent this to me a couple weeks back and i’ve been thinking about it ever since! I can think of a million reasons why these would be awesome… as apartment décor, as outdoor party décor, and – wouldn’t they be the best thing EVER for camping in general or at a festival?

Just let them sit in the sun all day, and they’ll last all night! I am absolutely going to make some to bring with me to bonnaroo this year. you can buy a sun jar here, but you can make your own for much cheaper! What you need: a mason jar with a clear glass lid like this one from ikea, a solar garden light like the ones pictured above, which i found here, adhesive and glass frosting spray. start by spraying the inside of the jar with the frosting spray – this will help diffuse the light and give it a warm glow. don’t spray the lid though! These are perfect to make with your kids, and definitely liven up any countertop. The only problem I’m having is Posey keeps “accidentally” breaking things off and eating them! Thanks mom for sharing! Item’s you will need: Royal Icing quart size zip lock bag(to pipe on icing) graham crackers candy to decorate your house cardboard wrapped in foil(for the house to sit on) crunchy oat squares(thatch roof..this is optional) Begin your project with a piece of cardboard covered in foil for your base.

10 Things Not to Say to Your Kids | The Kid Counselor ™ When I think about all of the phrases, anecdotes, and sayings about the power of the spoken word I am reminded of how I changed my way of communicating with children upon learning Play Therapy principles. I realize that using Play Therapy based language is a learned and practiced skill that requires time and effort, so I thought it would be helpful to share ten commonly used phrases parents say to their kids. I will also give the Play Therapy based alternative with a short explanation of why it is more effective. 1. No (running, hitting, yelling, fill in the verb)! Kids hear the word "no" far too frequently (Read more about that here). You can always rephrase the sentence from a negative to a positive, which will correct the behavior without sounding critical.

Train yourself to say what you want them to do instead of what you don't. 2. I have spent a good deal of time on articles on the difference between Praise vs. 3. 4. This does two things. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. 10. Mrs. Humpal's Room: Introducing.... THE GLUE SPONGE! This has revolutionized collage in my classes - LOVE IT!! I wish I could take the credit for this idea - or even give credit to the genius who came up with it.

I originally read a description of a glue sponge container on a T.A.B Choice Message Board a few years ago, and it seemed like a great idea. I cut a sponge to fit the container, and just poured glue in. Students can just tap their shapes on the top of the sponge for a thin, even coat of glue - no more puddles! I worried about the sponges getting icky, but I still have the ones that I made well over a year ago, and the sponges are still intact AND the glue isn't stinky :) The only maintenance these need are a few spritzes of water before they get closed up for the day, and flip the sponge every so often. Love, love, love my glue sponge containers.

SLIME. Don't you LOVE it when your little one is over the moon about an activity you shared together?! I do!! This morning we made RAINBOW SLIME and Biscuit was beside herself with excitement.

There are a few ways to make slime, however I found this recipe works best ~ 1 1/2 cups of CLEAR glue and 1 1/2 cups of liquid starch. You mix it all together, separate the slime into a few small bowls and add food coloring to each bowl. You only need a few drops of food coloring!!! Making her slime All ready to go! "Stretchy" "Eeeeeew. " "I squish it! " Deep in thought.... By the end there was just one big ball of slime. She played with this stuff for thirty minutes ~ uninterrupted. *High-fiving myself* Happy Playing & Exploring!! Rainbow Roses: All Colors in One Rose. The rainbow rose is a rose which has had its petals artificially coloured. The colouring method exploits the rose’s natural processes by which water is drawn up the stem. By splitting the stem and dipping each part in a differently coloured water, the colours are drawn into the petals resulting in a multicoloured rose.

Besides roses, other cut flowers can also be coloured using the same method. The rainbow rose has been developed by a collaboration of two dutch companies, River Flowers and F.J. Zandbergen & Zn. Zandbergen is a large company which specialises in everything to do with roses. Heidi Frazer / Pinterest. Handprint Reindeer Hat. Be Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer with fun reindeer crafts for kids.
