Huggers first announced in February of 2016 that Vevo was looking to launch a paid service, possibly even before the end of 2016. A year later, those priorities clearly have shifted. A subscription tier continues to be a part of Vevo’s long-term strategy, Huggers said. “It’s completely still in the cards.”

But at least in the near future, the company is emphasizing other initiatives. Vevo’s music is available in many countries around the world through its partnership with YouTube, with Huggers saying that “80% of Vevo’s audience is outside of the U.S.” This also included what he called “a hard reset on content and programming activity.” Huggers took over as CEO of Vevo in April of 2015. “Lawnmower Man” Is Being Turned Into a Virtual Reality Series.

-based Jaunt is reviving virtual reality (VR) classic “Lawnmower Man” — only this time, you’ll have to put on a VR headset to watch it: Jaunt announced Thursday at Sundance that it is working with original rights holders top turn the movie into a VR series. “The original movie was a film of unsurpassed imagination and creativity with its ground-breaking use of VR back in 1992,” said Jim Howell. “Together with Jaunt we look forward to a contemporary team bringing to life a whole new world of VR; a world of immersive entertainment and communication. We are very excited to be working with Jaunt to create a VR realization of the film.” Jaunt got its start as a VR camera maker, but has been putting bigger emphasis on content production and distribution in recent months.

The funding was led by China’s Danhua Capital, which focuses on early- and growth-stage investments. Other investors include Horizons Alpha’s Edward Lando, Vayner Capital’s Gary Vaynerchuk, Abe Burns (of Sound Ventures and A-Grade Investments), and Adam Zeplain. Paul, who is TeamDom’s founder and CEO, said the funding will be used to recruit more talent managers and other staff; to develop and monetize influencer products; develop a TV show; and to produce more branded content. “Social media isn’t just an alternative to traditional media — it’s turning the traditional model on its head and totally shaking up how consumers make decisions,” he said.
