Bouhhhhh. Bagues adaptatrices pour Sony NEX. De rien.

Optimising the Sony NEX 5N for cinematic video. Tuesday, 13 September, 2011 13:37 Pacifica by Marlon Torres Sony have made a splash with their first credible video DSLR, the NEX 5N.

Optimising the Sony NEX 5N for cinematic video

In my view I still prefer the GH2′s image – Panasonic knocked the image processing into a different league for a DSLR on that and the hack furthers it – but the 5N has a very good sensor and a new processor. Out of the box it looks very electronic though. Here’s how to tune it. There are two picture profiles that I use on the 5N (which Sony dub Creative Styles). Picture profiles make a big difference to the image on a DSLR, we are not just tinkering around the edges here. When I want to flatten the image like CineStyle and give shadow detail a boost I use Portrait and when I’m shooting scenes with a lot of smooth gradated tones (skies and skin) I shoot with Sunset. For most I recommend Portrait as the default setting. Now the LCDs on the GH2 and 5N are pretty poor for guaging colour temperature and exposure. A lot has been made of the video capabilities of the Sony NEX-5N and rightfully so.

Getting Cinematic with the Sony NEX-5N: The Digital Visual Style

Never before have we seen a compact interchangeable lens camera pack so much video prowess, touting Full-HD integration up to 1080/60p, a first for camera at that price-point. Through some minor setting tweaks, the pint-sized powerhouse from Sony can produce some rather cinematic images. As I stated before, I recommend heading over to EOSHD.com, where Andrew Reid detailed the a how-to guide for NEX-5N video optimization. The cinematic look in question was first achieved by Marlon Torres and his early NEX-5N video: “Pacifica.” Although not Panasonic GH2 quality, the images rendered were quite pleasant and reinforced the notion that Sony produced quite the capable little video camera. This time around, the Sony NEX-5N received The Digital Visual treatment, taking its out for a quick 4-hour Sunday session with the goal to produce some cinematic shots. Chaîne de JogBird. And here are two real videos made with each camera (not "test" videos of some boring objects or pets). TM900: Great colors, sharpest camcorder of any. Great silent power zoom, useful viewfinder. Reliable autofocus, but also wide dof. Disadvantages: Limited at the wide-angle end, overexposes badly in bright light in auto mode - necessary to use manual exposure, which is a pain. NEX-5N. Here are the videos. The videos thus show the low-light and bright light abilities in real use, the dynamic range, the range of lenses, the audio qualities, dof.
