Following the decision of the URBACT III Monitoring Committee on 11 March 2015, the first call for proposals for Action Planning Networks for 2014 – 2020 is now open. Deadline for applications: 16 June 2015. The main objective of Action Planning Networks is to improve the capacity of European cities to manage sustainable urban policies and more especially to strengthen their ability to design integrated strategies for sustainable urban development. By taking part in an Action Planning Network, cities exchange and share experiences, problems and possible solutions, generating new ideas to address challenges related to sustainable urban development. It is a unique means for them to jointly develop their own ideas and new initiatives across all fields in science and technology, including social sciences and humanities, through pan-European networking of nationally funded research activities. Based on a European intergovernmental framework for cooperation in science and technology, COST has been contributing - since its creation in 1971 - to closing the gap between science, policy makers and society throughout Europe and beyond. As a precursor of advanced multidisciplinary research, COST plays a very important role in building a European Research Area (ERA). It anticipates and complements the activities of the EU Framework Programmes, constituting a “bridge” towards the scientific communities of COST Inclusiveness Target Countries.
EEBO-TCP. Welcome to the website of the Early English Books Online Text Creation Partnership (EEBO-TCP) at the Bodleian Libraries, Oxford. EEBO-TCP began in 1999 as an innovative collaboration between the Universities of Oxford and Michigan, funded by Jisc in the UK and by over 150 academic partner institutions worldwide. Its aim is to capture the earliest extant edition of every English-language work published during the first two centuries of printing in England, and converting this material into fully-searchable texts.
The EEBO-TCP corpus covers the period from 1473 to 1700 and is now estimated to comprise more than two million pages and nearly a billion words. Over 25,000 Early English texts freely available worldwide! Having previously been available only to academic institutions which subscribe to ProQuest’s Early English Books Online resource, over 25,000 texts from the first phase of EEBO-TCP have been made freely available as open data in the public domain from January 2015. The utilisation of digital technologies for research in the humanities and social sciences demonstrates the need for innovation at the service of scholarship and its advancement.
The shift to digital is impacting on identities and cultures and transforming the shape of the knowledge that we will transmit to future generations as well as the means by which we can interact with it. . This specific challenge responds to the growing urge to share the wealth of cultural resources, research and knowledge in our collections and recognises that new cultural assets are continually created. It will show how digital cultural resources can promote creativity and generate innovation in research design and methodology, lead to richer interpretations of the past, bring new perspectives to questions of identity and culture, and generate societal and economic benefits.
