TU München: Fakultäten. Institute of Automatic Control Engineering (LSR): Home.

EE Research. Research Topics — PSU CSE. Info Research plays an important role in graduate education in computer science and engineering at Penn State. A summary of some of the current research activities of the CSE graduate faculty follows. These research groups are not formal groups, but are described to aid prospective students. Researchers may work in several areas or may be engaged in research that does not fit into any group. Bioinformatics Design and construction of algorithms and software systems for analysis of biological sequence data, including genomic DNA sequences, expressed DNA sequences, and protein sequences. Computer Vision Computer vision systems bring together imaging devices, computers, mathematical formalisms and algorithms for solving applied problems in areas such as industrial inspection, medicine, document analysis, autonomous navigation, and remote sensing.

The semester hour. The credit value of courses is expressed in semester hours.

Most courses are designed to require approximately three hours of work a week throughout the semester for each semester hour of credit given; that is, for each hour a class meets, an average of two additional hours of preparation is expected of the student. The time requirement in the laboratory, field, or studio varies with the nature of the subject and the aims of a course, so there is no fixed ratio of laboratory to class hours. Most courses meet three hours a week in the fall and spring semesters and have a credit value of three hours. In a six-week summer term, courses meet seven and a half hours a week for three semester hours of credit. Course numbers. Two courses that have the same abbreviation and the same last two digits may not both be counted for credit unless the digits are followed by a letter. Research - Robots Using Tools: With New Grant, Researchers Aim to Create ‘MacGyver’ Robot. Posted Oct 09, 2012 | Atlanta, GA Robots are increasingly being used in place of humans to explore hazardous and difficult-to-access environments, but they aren’t yet able to interact with their environments as well as humans. If today’s most sophisticated robot was trapped in a burning room by a jammed door, it would probably not know how to locate and use objects in the room to climb over any debris, pry open the door, and escape the building. This image shows a laboratory simulation of a robot rescue capability that could result from research sponsored by the Office of Naval Research. Controlled by a human operator, a robot known as Golem Krang creates a bridge from a board to rescue a trapped human. (Georgia Tech Photo: Josh Meister) A research team led by Professor Mike Stilman at the Georgia Institute of Technology hopes to change that by giving robots the ability to use objects in their environments to accomplish high-level tasks.
