PLOS 27/01/16 Dynamics of Cattle Production in Brazil. Abstract Movement of livestock production within a country or region has implications for genetics, adaptation, well-being, nutrition, and production logistics, particularly in continental-sized countries, such as Brazil.
Cattle production in Brazil from 1977 to 2011 was spatialized, and the annual midpoint of production was calculated. Changes in the relative production and acceleration of production were calculated and spatialized using ARCGIS®. Cluster and canonical discriminant analyses were performed to further highlight differences between regions in terms of cattle production. The mean production point has moved from the Center of Minas Gerais State (in the southeast region) to the North of Goiás State (in the Midwest region). For this purpose, primary data were collected among a sample of 84 farmers. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and a logit model. Key words: technology adoption, productivity, public policies Introduction The Brazilian beef cattle farming is marked by its great diversity and technological heterogeneity. According to several studies (Peixoto et al., 1989; Wedekin & Amaral, 1991; Restle, 1999; Cezar et al., 2005), feedlots present the highest technological intensity of any production system in Brazil. Greater impact on the environment than we realize. Increased export of Brazilian beef indirectly leads to deforestation in the Amazon.
New research from Chalmers and SIK that was recently published in Environmental Science & Technology shows that impact on the climate is much greater than current estimates indicate. The researchers are now demanding that indirect effect on land be included when determining a product's carbon footprint. "If this aspect is not taken into consideration, there is a risk of the wrong signals being sent to policy makers and consumers, and we become guilty of underestimating the impact Brazilian beef has on the climate," says Sverker Molander, Professor Environmental Systems Analysis and one of the researchers responsible for the article.
In Brazil, beef production is the major cause of deforestation in the Amazon. The consequence is not only that valuable rainforest disappears – deforestation also adds to the greenhouse effect. "The basic problem is that we are eating an increasing amount of meat. Associacion of Brazilian Beef Exporters. PARLEMENT EUROPEEN - Réponse à question P-011411-12 Beef imports from Brazil — atypical form of BSE. On 7 December 2012, the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) confirmed the discovery of an atypical form of bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE) in the region of Paraná in Brazil(1).
This atypical form had already arisen in a 13-year-old mother cow in December 2010. After an initial negative test for BSE in April 2011 at a laboratory in Brazil, the sample was sent to another institute in Brazil, where in June 2012 — i.e. 14 months after the first test and 19 months after the condition had arisen — the sample was found to be infected with BSE. On 6 December 2012 — two years after the death of the BSE-infected cow — the OIE confirmed, by means of the third test in total, the existence of a new atypical form of BSE. On the basis of this information, Japan, China and South Africa banned imports of Brazilian beef. 1. 2.
