FRONT. VET. SCI. 19/03/19 Prevalence and Serotype Diversity of Salmonella in apparently healthy Cattle: Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Published Studies, 2000-2017

We estimated a pooled prevalence of Salmonella apparently healthy Cattle and examined serotype diversity through systematic review and meta-analysis of studies published between 2000-2017. Peer reviewed publications reporting the prevalence of Salmonella in cattle were searched through five electronic databases (PubMed, Google scholar, Agricola, Scopus, CAB direct) and through manual search. ITALIAN JOURNAL OF FOOD SAFETY - 2016 - Low prevalence of Salmonella enterica in cull dairy cattle at slaughter in Northern Italy

Dairy cows were reared in 89 farms located in two regions of Northern Italy (Lombardy and Emilia-Romagna regions), where bovine milk is primarily used for Parmigiano- Reggiano cheese and Grana Padano cheese production. Samples were collected by swabbing a 400-cm2 area of the brisket hide and by rectoanal mucosal swabs. They were tested following the reference ISO 6579 method and the isolates were serotyped following the Kauffmann-White-Le Minor scheme and genotyped by XbaI PFGE. Cattle production in Uganda Cattle are mainly kept in extensive pasture-based production systems: tethered, in enclosures or with communal grazing. At the last livestock census the country had a population of 11.4 million cattle heads and about 1 in 4 households keep cattle. An estimated 1.5 million cows were milked for household consumption and/or for family income. The average milk production per cow and week was 8.5 l [10]. Actions (Identification requise) FOOD SAFETY MAGAZINE - DEC 2015/ JANUARY 2016. Au sommaire: State of an Industry: Salmonella and Bovine Lymph Nodes. MEAT SPOTLIGHT | December 2015/January 2016 By Ashley Arnold, Ph.D., and Kerri B. Gehring, Ph.D. Salmonella has been a hot topic for the past few years. In December 2013, the U.S. Department of Agriculture Food Safety and Inspection Service (USDA-FSIS) released the Salmonella action plan, which included 10 action items for the agency. But first, let’s review why there is such an increased focus on Salmonella. Salmonella in Beef: A Look at the Data The most recent CDC annual surveillance report (2013 data) quantified 818 total outbreaks, 157 of which were caused by Salmonella and 5 due specifically to Salmonella in beef products.

CODEX ALIMENTARIUS 20/11/15 Food Hygiene progresses with work on Salmonella in Beef and Pork. The Codex Committee on Food Hygiene (CCFH) was established in 1964 to draft basic provisions on food hygiene applicable to all food and prioritize areas where there is a need for microbiological risk assessment at the international level. The committee held its 47th session in Boston, Massachusetts, USA, 9–13 November 2015. Technical experts, senior administrators and researchers representing 75 member countries, one member organization and nine international governmental and non-governmental organizations attended.

New work The Committee requested the Codex Alimentarius Commission to approve new work on the revision of the General Principles of Food Hygiene (CAC/RCP 1-1969) and its HACCP Annex as well as the revision of the Code of Hygienic Practice for Fresh Fruits and Vegetables (CAC/RCP 53-2003) Successful outcomes for working groups Links.
