In this study, we sought to determine whether two beekeeper-applied pesticide products, tau-fluvalinate and Fumagilin-B®, and one agrochemical, chlorothalonil, impact the nutrient levels in honey bee workers in a natural colony environment. Treatments were performed in-hive and at three different periods (fall, spring, and summer) over the course of one year. Abstract The extensive use of pesticides in agriculture plays an important role in bees die-off and allows the presence of residues in hive products, particularly in honey.
An accurate and reliable analytical method, based on QuEChERS extractive technique, has been developed for the quantitative determination by high-performance liquid chromatography UV-visible detector of 5 pesticides (Deltamethrin, Dimethoate, Imidacloprid, Acetamiprid, Chlorfenvinphos) in honey. The method, according to Commission Directive 2002/63/EC and Regulation 882/2004/EC, provided excellent results with respect to linearity (correlation coefficient up to 0.993), limits of detection and quantification (0.005 and 0.01 μg/mL for Dimethoate, Deltamethrin and Chlorfenvinphos; 0.02 and 0.05 μg/mL for Acetamiprid and Imidacloprid), recovery values (86.4 to 96.3%), precision and relative expanded uncertainty of a measurement, demonstrating the conformity of the this method with the European directives.

After the optimization of different parameters such as the extraction solvent, pesticides were extracted from honey with ethyl acetate in an ultrasonic bath, cleaned up on a Florisil column by an elution of mixture of hexane and ethyl acetate (7/3, v/v), and analyzed by gas chromatography-electron impact ionization mass spectrometry (GC-EI/MS) in the selected ion-monitoring mode (SIM) with PCB103 as internal standard.
Recovery studies were performed at 50, 100 and 200 μg/kg fortification levels for each pesticide, and the recoveries ranged from 82% to 120% with relative standard deviations between 1.8% and 11.0% for different pesticides. Abstract Concentration levels of 30 pesticide residues were measured in honey samples collected from apiaries in northern part of Poland (Pomerania) using method based on the QuEChERS extraction followed by liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry with electron spray ionization (LC–ESI–MS/MS). In 29% of the samples were found positive for at least some of the target compounds.
Concentration of bifenthrin, fenpyroximate, methidathion, spinosad, thiamethoxam, and triazophos exceeded maximum residue levels (MRL) in five samples (11%), the kind of the residues being correlated to agriculture practices in the region. The maximum values of these pesticides were 14.5, 16.3, 25.7, 20.6, 20.2 and 20.3 ng/g respectively. Profenofos was the most abundant at concentration ranged from <LOQ to 17.2 ng/g.
