Nicotinoïdes et miel. NATURE 19/04/17 High pesticide risk to honey bees despite low focal crop pollen collection during pollination of a mass blooming crop. Field experimental design In April 2015, we purchased 120 5-frame nucleus colonies of honey bees from a local commercial beekeeper.
All nucleus colonies were transferred into new 10-frame equipment with plastic foundation and allowed to draw comb for two weeks in a common location (Dyce Lab for Honey Bee Studies, Ithaca, NY: 42.466118, –76.446211). During this time, all colonies were assessed for strength and queen status. Of the 120 colonies, 5 were determined to be queenless and replaced with new queens from the same genetic source. Following assessments, frames were redistributed among colonies such that all colonies had a similar composition of brood, bees, pollen and nectar prior to enrollment in the field experiment.
Corresponding with the first sign of bloom in each orchard (between May 7–11, 2015), we transferred 4 colonies into each of 30 apple orchard sites in western and central New York (Table S1).

ITALIAN JOURNAL OF FOOD SAFETY – MAI 2014 - Rapid modified QuEChERS method for pesticides detection in honey by high-performance liquid chromatography UV-visible. Abstract The extensive use of pesticides in agriculture plays an important role in bees die-off and allows the presence of residues in hive products, particularly in honey.
An accurate and reliable analytical method, based on QuEChERS extractive technique, has been developed for the quantitative determination by high-performance liquid chromatography UV-visible detector of 5 pesticides (Deltamethrin, Dimethoate, Imidacloprid, Acetamiprid, Chlorfenvinphos) in honey. The method, according to Commission Directive 2002/63/EC and Regulation 882/2004/EC, provided excellent results with respect to linearity (correlation coefficient up to 0.993), limits of detection and quantification (0.005 and 0.01 μg/mL for Dimethoate, Deltamethrin and Chlorfenvinphos; 0.02 and 0.05 μg/mL for Acetamiprid and Imidacloprid), recovery values (86.4 to 96.3%), precision and relative expanded uncertainty of a measurement, demonstrating the conformity of the this method with the European directives.

More than 70 percent of pollen and honey samples collected from foraging bees in Massachusetts contain at least one neonicotinoid, a class of pesticide that has been implicated in Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD), in which adult bees abandon their hives during winter, according to a new study from Harvard T.H.
Chan School of Public Health. The study appeared online in the July 23 issue of the Journal of Environmental Chemistry. “Data from this study clearly demonstrated the ubiquity of neonicotinoids in pollen and honey samples that bees are exposed to during the seasons when they are actively foraging across Massachusetts. Chinese Journal of Chromatography Volume 24, Issue 5, September 2006, Determination of Multiple Pesticide Residues in Honey Usin. Abstract An analytical method was developed for the simultaneous determination of 23 pesticide residues in various commercial honeys. Meanwhile, the characteristic ions and fragmentation mechanism of three pesticides in the process of electron impact ionization mass spectrometry (EI/MS) were evaluated. After the optimization of different parameters such as the extraction solvent, pesticides were extracted from honey with ethyl acetate in an ultrasonic bath, cleaned up on a Florisil column by an elution of mixture of hexane and ethyl acetate (7/3, v/v), and analyzed by gas chromatography-electron impact ionization mass spectrometry (GC-EI/MS) in the selected ion-monitoring mode (SIM) with PCB103 as internal standard.
Recovery studies were performed at 50, 100 and 200 μg/kg fortification levels for each pesticide, and the recoveries ranged from 82% to 120% with relative standard deviations between 1.8% and 11.0% for different pesticides. Key Words. INTECH - OCT 2011 - Pesticide Residues in Bee Products. Food Control - Pesticide residues levels in honey from apiaries located of Northern Poland. Abstract Concentration levels of 30 pesticide residues were measured in honey samples collected from apiaries in northern part of Poland (Pomerania) using method based on the QuEChERS extraction followed by liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry with electron spray ionization (LC–ESI–MS/MS). In 29% of the samples were found positive for at least some of the target compounds. Concentration of bifenthrin, fenpyroximate, methidathion, spinosad, thiamethoxam, and triazophos exceeded maximum residue levels (MRL) in five samples (11%), the kind of the residues being correlated to agriculture practices in the region.
The maximum values of these pesticides were 14.5, 16.3, 25.7, 20.6, 20.2 and 20.3 ng/g respectively. Profenofos was the most abundant at concentration ranged from <LOQ to 17.2 ng/g.
