UNIVERSITY OF COPENHAGEN 28/08/19 New method reveals whether your potato is organic or not

By looking at how organic plants are fertilised, the method provides a deeper, more accurate portrayal of whether eco-labelled produce is indeed organic. According to experts, imported organic fruits and vegetables are susceptible to food fraud. Increased consumer demand and higher profits for producers has made organic foods susceptible to food fraud. “While a major eco-labelling scandal has yet to occur in Denmark, we often forget that our diet is sourced globally, and that our foods are often imported from countries where problems have been documented. Agriculture and Agricultural Science Procedia Volume 6, 2015 Smart Monitoring of Potato Crop: A Cyber-Physical System Architecture Model in the Field of Precision Agriculture

Please enable JavaScript to use all the features on this page. Abstract In the last two decades an intense shift from advanced mechatronic systems to Cyber-Physical Systems (CPS) is taking place. CPS will play an important role in the field of precision agriculture and it is expected to improve productivity in order to feed the world and prevent starvation.

In order to expedite and accelerate the realization of CPS in the field of precision agriculture it is necessary to develop methods, tools, hardware and software components based upon transdisciplinary approaches, along with validation of the principles via prototypes and test beds. PhD thesis, University of Glasgow. Full text available as: Biofumigation is being increasing used as alternative control method for soil borne pathogens. This method exploits toxic compounds, specifically isothiocyanates (ITCs), which are released during the breakdown of Brassica plant tissues. To date field and glasshouse experimentation assessing the potential for using biofumigation to control agricultural pests and pathogens have produced promising results. Changes/Problems:Although we were notified the grant was awarded on September 12, 2014, funds were not released to Cornell University until March 4, 2015. Most of the Subcontracts were in place by April 20, 2015. NIFA allows grantees to back charge expenses to the start of the grant (September 1, 2014), but most universities only allow accounting transfers up to 90 days prior to the start of the subaccount. A generic insecticide is usually functionally identical to its brand name equivalent, but not always. The proliferation of generic products available for use on potatoes has made it difficult to keep track of all product names for each active ingredient. For example, there are currently 48 products containing imidacloprid registered on potatoes by 18 different companies in the Pacific Northwest (PNW). Forty of these products are generic products.
