By looking at how organic plants are fertilised, the method provides a deeper, more accurate portrayal of whether eco-labelled produce is indeed organic. According to experts, imported organic fruits and vegetables are susceptible to food fraud. Increased consumer demand and higher profits for producers has made organic foods susceptible to food fraud. “While a major eco-labelling scandal has yet to occur in Denmark, we often forget that our diet is sourced globally, and that our foods are often imported from countries where problems have been documented. This method exploits toxic compounds, specifically isothiocyanates (ITCs), which are released during the breakdown of Brassica plant tissues. To date field and glasshouse experimentation assessing the potential for using biofumigation to control agricultural pests and pathogens have produced promising results. A generic insecticide is usually functionally identical to its brand name equivalent, but not always. The proliferation of generic products available for use on potatoes has made it difficult to keep track of all product names for each active ingredient. For example, there are currently 48 products containing imidacloprid registered on potatoes by 18 different companies in the Pacific Northwest (PNW). Forty of these products are generic products.
