EFSA - JANV 2017 - EFSA awards €1m to innovative research projects

By co-funding these projects EFSA is supporting advances in risk assessment methodology and encouraging scientific cooperation, innovation, and exchange of expertise in the EU. A total of 28 organisations from 15 European countries, grouped in six consortia, responded to EFSA’s second thematic grant call launched in April 2016. The aim of the call was to encourage cooperation between EFSA and Member States as well as among Member States through the formation of consortia of Article 36 list organisations. EFSA was looking for innovative project proposals that would further enhance the sharing of knowledge and expertise. Winning projects The successful projects are: What are thematic grants?

EFSA constantly reviews existing risk assessment methods and develops new ones in key scientific areas related to food safety to ensure the excellence of its work.

BMC - DEC 2011 - Research for food and health in Europe: themes, needs and proposals

There is very little evidence of joint specific funding for this topic anywhere in Europe. Food processing research appears reasonably well funded at EU level, although within larger Food and Health projects. There are research facilities and infrastructure in both western and eastern European countries, with significant facilities in both regions, although these are ageing in the eastern countries. In almost all countries, the industry has projects on food technology diagnostic methods, whereas enforcement programmes are planned by public entities, universities and public research institutes and sometime endorsed by private actors.

Akadémiai Kiadó, Budapest, Hungary 2010 Agrifood research in Europe: a global perspective

Agrifood activities have affected everyday life since the first plots of land had been cultivated and these sectors have always received strategic attention: in times of war the agrifood sectors are always carefully taken into account but also in the current crisis these sectors show some degree of stability and they are looked upon as potential assets for the coming decades, which are likely to see global ecological as well as political imbalances and reconfigurations.

Publication.
