Chic Masquerade - DIY Mask & Template. Parfait. I like this idea of taking something so democratic and traditional as Yogurt Parfaits and turning it around to create something a bit more provocative. When Adria first invented this new process of taking liquids and forming them into self encased bubbles of caviar that held juice inside, I was not only mesmerized but excited…excited to know that this new form of food could be applied in so many different ways. Although he may seem a bit high brow and what some may call “gimmicky” and “pretentious”, I get the sneaking suspicion that he not only wants to influence elite chefs all over the world but the masses of people as well. Unfortunately, none of his methods have been properly democratized because they seem challenging and hard to do.

There are also a good number of tools that need to be purchased to achieve the desired effect. These tools are available on the internet and I can easily direct you to the sources. I thought of several different flavors for this new parfait; Lace Boot Socks. I've got some bigger house and garden stuff I've been working on the past couple of weeks so I only have time for a quickie craft today (sorry, nothing exciting, just digging up flower beds and painting the porch). And I have to admit, I have no idea what these things are called, but they're all the rage (at least on Pinterest) so I made a pair.

I call them boot socks. -----------------------------------Update: I really, really appreciate all of the new visitors coming over from Pinterest, but before you leave a comment asking me where I got my boots or the lace to make this project, please take a moment to actually read the post (especially if you are a no-reply blogger or anonymous). All of the information is right here in the post~------------------------------------ For those of you who aren't quite as trendy as I am (which would be difficult to accomplish), these babies are a way to add a layer of somethin' somethin' (do people still say that???) Here's what you need: Materials: We're Obsessed With This Easy DIY Artwork Project (& You'll Be, Too!)

UPDATE: The long weekend is the perfect time to start some new projects, so why not try this awesome (and so easy) artwork DIY? This story was originally published on July 25. If there are two things that have been commanding our attention lately, they're cool artwork and chevron prints. So, we were obviously pretty stoked to find a way to incorporate both — for cheap! — in an amazing DIY project for your apartment. Inspired by the work of artist Nancy Ramirez, two stellar Refinery29 interns collaborated on this easy-does-it way to spice up an empty wall. There's no need to be intimidated — this project is doable for any level of DIY-er (it's actually supposed to look a little imperfect!). All you need is a paintbrush, your fave colors of paint, a canvas, and some painter's tape. From the moment we spied this Nancy Ramirez painting on Pinterest, we were smitten.

Assemble your paints and squeeze a quarter-size amount of each color onto your palette. Et voilà! DIY Marbled Glassware. When graphic designer and artist Joanna Bean Martin shared with us her technique for marbling the bottoms of glassware with nail polish, we couldn’t wait to try it ourselves. Who knew it would be such an easy way to add color and pattern to your next tablescape or party? Remember, the brighter and bolder colors you use, the more the glasses will radiate and glow. Have fun! Fill a disposable, plastic container with water. Layer the colors one on top of the other.

Submerge the bottom of the glass into the polish. Allow to dry completely before applying a layer of clear polish. Once everything has dried, remove the painters tape and touch up with nail polish remover and a cotton swab. Your glowing glasses are finished! Bottoms up! Hippo Paint. The Chinese people use 45 billion pairs of disposable chopsticks every year, which adds up to 25 million full-grown trees. If you can’t use ‘em with food, try recycling them into something a bit more interesting! Photo from ichizen According to an article in the UK-based magazine The Independent, “The Chinese use 45 billion pairs of disposable chopsticks every year, which adds up to 1.7 million cubic meter of timber or 25 million full-grown trees, which means badly depleted forests.”

And that’s only in China! I’ve been to a few Asian restaurants that offer reusable stainless steel or wooden chopsticks, but for the most part (because it’s cheaper to mass produce), these places give you disposable wooden chopsticks. I wanted to see if I could find some clever and funky ways that people are recycling these chopsticks. 1. Featured on kk.org This may be the perfect basket for holding fruit. 2.

DIY Wrap Bracelet - Honestly WTF. You should all know by now that we are all about stacking bracelets on our wrists. The more, the better. In fact . . . the most, the best! With that being said, we’ll show you how to master a version of the ever so popular wrap bracelet. It’s so simple and addicting, you’ll soon be churning out these wristlets with your eyes closed.

Clearly this arm party train isn’t stopping and it’s about time you get on board! You’ll need (for a double wrapped bracelet) :* Lengths will vary depending on the size of your wrist (see comments for suggestions). Fold the length of leather cording in half to form a loop. Place the ball chain along the leather cording with the end of the chain meeting the end of the wrap. Continue wrapping while checking it for fit around the wrist. When you have reached the end of the ball chain wrap the linen cording around the leather strands 2-3 more times.

Thread the hex nut through the strands and tie a second knot. Trim with scissors and your wrap bracelet is finished!! We Heart This - DIY of the Month: Braided T-shirt Bracelet.
