Run Linux on your Dockstar, GoFlex, or Pogoplug NAS
This guide will replace the locked bootloader on your device with a new version that can boot from a variety of locations, including USB drives. The installer will create a simple Debian Linux installation on your external USB drive. From there, you can install any of the 25,000+ packages from the Debian repository. If you decide that you don't like Debian and want to use the old Pogoplug software, simply unplug your USB drive and reboot. After you've installed Debian, please visit the forums for additional project ideas and support. If you'd prefer to run a distro other than Debian, and just want to unlock the bootloader, please see the uBoot page.

Peut-être vous avez entendu du projet Piratebox… peut-être pas. Imaginée il y a un an par David Darts , responsable du département d’Art de la New York University, la PirateBox retrouve une certaine actualité à l’heure de la fermeture de MegaUpload et des luttes contre les projets ACTA , SOPA , PIPA , etc. Une PirateBox est tout simplement un outil qui permet le partage d’informations localement par WiFi. Elle se comporte comme un dossier partagé sur votre réseau informatique domestique, sauf que ce dossier est autonome.

The reason I haven’t written any more about my fun with the Dockstar was that due to an unfortunate set of circumstances I was left with a bricked dockstar. (read: I did something stupid.) After performing a lot of research and thanks to a bunch of people over at the PlugApps.com Forum site who helped me, I was able to get it running.

Ok, so not long after I published the article on the hardware teardown of the Seagate Dockstar , I couldn’t help myself so I started working on things to do with this device. I did a lot of research in regards to the capabilities of the Dockstar, including being able to push a customized Linux OS on the device. Once I saw the article at Hackaday that covers exactly how to replace the OS, I knew I had to do it for myself.
