The telecommunications giant launched Telstra Air on June 30, in partnership with Wi-Fi provider, Fon, in a service that sees members use their own Telstra data, in public locations. "Over the next five years, our plan is to grow the network to two million Telstra Air hotpots across the country," Neil Louis, Telstra Retail, head of Wi-Fi said in a blog post. Prior to Telstra Air's launch, Australians were accessing Telstra Wi-Fi network from pink Wi-Fi domes placed throughout the country, for free as part of an extensive trial conducted by the telco. Once connected to the hotspot, users were given a cap of 30 minutes of free access with download speeds of up to 2MBps. The trial saw 1.5 million unique users, and 500 terabytes consumed per day in the public Wi-Fi hotspots. The 24 Best Sustainable and Eco-Friendly Restaurants in NYC. OmegaGarden.com - Indoor Urban Farming as a New Career. Retired to a Densely Populated Urban Area?
Consider Indoor Urban Farming as a New Career If you are a retiree in a densely populated northern city, perhaps you should consider becoming an indoor urban farmer – either in your own home or, if you have bigger aspirations, from a warehouse. Farmers have long known that indoor hydroponic gardens grown without soil or sunlight produce yields 10-30 times greater than traditional soil-based gardens. But traditionally, hydroponic gardens needed to lay flat, thus consuming vast amounts of space and electricity to power the grow lights.
The Problem. Eco Homes. What is BREEAM? BREEAM is the world's foremost environmental assessment method and rating system for buildings, with 425,000 buildings with certified BREEAM assessment ratings and two million registered for assessment since it was first launched in 1990.
BREEAM sets the standard for best practice in sustainable building design, construction and operation and has become one of the most comprehensive and widely recognised measures of a building's environmental performance. It encourages designers, clients and others to think about low carbon and low impact design, minimising the energy demands created by a building before considering energy efficiency and low carbon technologies. A BREEAM assessment uses recognised measures of performance, which are set against established benchmarks, to evaluate a building’s specification, design, construction and use. Eco Friendly Houses - Eco Friendly Houses. Solar Steam Generator. A Solar Receiver Steam Generator (SRSG) is a key component of a Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) generating plant.
The SRSG, also known as a boiler or receiver, is a high-efficiency boiler positioned on top of a tower (typically 300 to 400 ft above grade), and surrounded by a field of mirrors (heliostats) that focus and concentrate sunlight onto the receiver tubes. The energy from the sunlight is used to generate and superheat steam in a forced circulation drum-type boiler, with the superheated steam being used to produce electricity.
Permaculture Design Principles. The foundations of permaculture are the ethics (centre) which guide the use of the 12 design principles, ensuring that they are used in appropriate ways.
These principles are seen as universal, although the methods used to express them will vary greatly according to the place and situation. They are applicable to our personal, economic, social and political reorganisation as illustrated in the permaculture flower. Each principle can be thought of as a door that opens into whole systems thinking, providing a different perspective that can be understood at varying levels of depth and application.
