It operates approximately 2,000 stores in 88 countries. Miller argues in court documents that because he was not a member of Zara’s preferred demographic – straight, Spanish, and Christian – he was discriminated against and subject to a hostile work environment. H&M is Reportedly Focusing on its "Ethical Profile" — The Fashion Law

The fashion industry has come under increasing pressure to cut water use and pesticides in cotton farming, reduce pollution from textile factories and improve factory conditions, particularly after the collapse of the Rana Plaza complex in Bangladesh two years ago. Opinion is split on whether companies are doing enough. While worker rights group Clean Clothes Campaign has accused H&M of using the sustainability issue as a marketing ploy, Corporate Knights magazine declared it to be among the world's most sustainable companies. Anna Gedda, H&M's head of sustainability, is determined the latter view will prevail.

In light of the Fall/Winter 2014 couture shows, Alexander Fury, fashion editor of The Independent posed a question that piqued my interest: When does your status as a "couture" house expire? While Fury questioned this on the heels of the Givenchy Spring/Summer 2015 menswear show (he clarified that is was not a "a pointed menswear comment, just prompted by their Instagram" in reference to the brand's tag line, which reads "GIVENCHY OFFICIAL INSTAGRAM OF THE COUTURE HOUSE"), his question raises some interesting points beyond Givenchy.

In an article that Fury subsequently penned, he noted the mystery that surrounds couture. Couture (aka haute couture) is governed by Fédération française de la couture, du prêt-à-porter des couturiers et des créateurs de mode (hereinafter "Fédération française de la couture"), a more modern version of the Chambre syndicale de la haute couture parisienne, the body that historically governed couture creation in France beginning in 1868.
