I have the wireless version. I've had three other Kinsington trackballs as well, but this is my first wireless version. My recommendation would be to not use the wireless one unless you really need that freedom. The "wired" models I've owned functioned a little faster, and of course never needed batteries. I use both the mighty mouse & a Logitech Marble trackball--one on each side of the keyboard. Plus a control surface...but that's another subject. The MM is great for scrolling but that's all I use it for. I tried a device I found online called the Ergonomic Touchpad, designed by a musician, but it didn't respond as it was supposed to & didn't track correctly on a Mac OR a pc, so I sent it back. Kind of the same idea as the Cirque Cat someone mentioned, & about the same price. I've been struggling with increasing numbness in my fingers for years & it has all but sidelined me for performing live. But this is more due to having some vertebrae fused years ago & years of repetitive strain from playing music, than from computer use. I was advised not to use a laptop because of neck strain issues--but I imagine using a laptop stand would help. You can play around with the screen resolution & contrast settings to help with visibility issues.

They still make a wireless one, which requires a little USB plug receiver - and batteries, and synchronisation with the receiver.
