The Victoria Cross hero suffered damage to his spine and brain in Iraq when a rocket-propelled grenade hit his patrol.It was thought the effects would be permanent, and in early sessions for the ice-skating show he appeared to be struggling. But he has now started to see improvements.... last week he had a major breakthrough when he noticed a signal go from his brain to his foot for the first time since his injury. Johnson, 31 – who will skate with partner Jodeyne Higgins in tonight’s semi-final – told the Sunday Mirror: “This experience is helping to heal me. “Learning routines is amazing therapy as it improves my muscle memory and my ability to command different parts of my brain. I’ve noticed massive changes in how quickly I’m moving and processing information. Johnson Beharry. Lance Sergeant Johnson Gideon Beharry VC (born 26 July 1979) of the 1st Battalion, Princess of Wales's Royal Regiment, is a British Army soldier who, on 18 March 2005, was awarded the Victoria Cross, the highest military decoration for valour in the British and Commonwealth armed forces, for twice saving members of his unit from ambushes on 1 May and again on 11 June 2004 at Al-Amarah, Iraq.
