The Golden Retriever is a hardy, medium-large sized puppy. The skull is wide and the muzzle is straight, tapering slightly using a well-defined stop. The nose is black or even a brown black. The moderate to big eyes are dark brown. The comparatively brief ears hang down close to your lips. The tail is thick at the bottom with feathering across the bottom. The waterproof jacket is compact with a company, straight or wavy outer coating. There's an untrimmed feathering on the underbelly back of the thighs, front of the throat and bottom of their tail. Coat colour comes from lotion to a rich gold.

These are adorable, well-mannered, smart dogs with a wonderful charm. They may be trained, and always gentle and patient with kids. While unlikely to assault, Goldens make great watchdogs, loudly indicating a stranger's strategy. This breed should be about people who exhibit leadership to become happy. The Golden Retriever can become harmful and/or high-strung, over-exuberant and distractible when he's lacking in daily physical and mental exercise. Make sure you stay this dog's company, however serene, confident, constant pack leader to steer clear of behavioral troubles. These puppies also love to swim.

The dogs were known as the Golden Flat-Coat and only later were they awarded the title Golden Retriever. The Golden Retriever is one of the most well-known breeds known now, not just as household companions except for obedience contests, searching and monitoring, as a birddog on both the land and from the water, narcotics detection, support dog for the handicapped, a manual for the blind and as a therapy dog.
