1. Horaires & Accès - Vente d'arbres fruitiers. Pépinières d'arbres fruitiers, Les Arbres Eric Dumont. The Storytelling Roundhouse at Cae Mabon. Driggs Loft | Matt Gagnon Studio. 1500sq ft Renovation, Brooklyn NY The previous commercial use of the space had a series of windowless rooms with poor ventilation. The client wanted to open up the space to use for a residence and a temporary gallery event space. Additionally the renovation had to be environmentally responsible. The solution was to remove the existing partitions and use those materials in new walls that would define storage and privacy concerns. 60% of the sheetrock removed was re-purposed as sculptural wall surfaces and kept out of landfill. To maintain an environmental approach we added cabinetry to a small existing kitchen instead of replacing what was there. To accommodate the need to transition from apartment to gallery, we deployed our hardwood screens to adapt the layout as functions dictated.

At the entry an articulated wall surface discreetly serves as a coat rack for the frequent events held in the space.

Permaculture. Future Forests. [click on images for full-sized versions] In 2001, Christy Collard (son of Future Forests' owner Mike Collard) travelled for a while through Ethiopia by bicycle. Among the many people he met was a remarkable Japanese woman named Kaori. By some wonderfully fortuitous series of events, she had arrived in the town of Lalibela earlier the same day as Christy, and was to take part in a treeplanting ceremony associated with her Japan-based 'Futaro Forest Fund' organisation!

The idea was to bring together her sponsors and local schoolchildren to plant out the trees the children had grown from seed in their school grounds. Ethiopia has suffered terribly in recent years as a result of deforestation, soil erosion, and overgrazing. 'Futaro' was the name she had given a wounded owl she had nursed back to health during a trip across Africa some years earlier. Here is a drawing of what he came up with: The thatched structures were partly inspired by traditional regional architecture as seen here: LAITUE MERVEILLE DES 4 SAISONS AB, Salades, Potager de A à Z, Semences et Bulbes.
