August from Idex Sri Lanka Volunteer Program - goidex

Hello! My name is August and I am 20 years old. I am from Sweden and decided to come to Sri Lanka for a month to volunteer work because I craved adventure and an interesting experience. This is my first time in Sri Lanka and my second time going to Asia so it has truly been an interesting and learning experience. The project – Most rewarding experience with Idex For my first day at the temple, I was warmly welcomed in to a relatively small and cozy temple by the two monks who were attending that day. The forthcoming weeks I have had so much fun with all the monks in the temple and as much as I have been able to teach them English they have taught me so much about Buddhism and life in general.

We got to stay in a really big and nice house in a centrally located suburb to Colombo. At the house IDEX staff members were always present for assistance and to answer any potential question I might have had. His father is Ahmed Khan and his mother Salma Beg. He has two sisters and lives in Koteha Colombo, A team of our volunteers went to Cathedral Boys’ College with the intention of helping the students there – and one of our female volunteers was allocated Sam to help him through with addition and subtraction for the six months that they would stay there. During her first encounters with Sam, she realized that he was very weak in these arithmetic operations and quickly found a solution to it – drawing circles to allow him count as he adds and subtracts.

With time, Sam’s progress was impressive – he could now add and subtract – but there was still some little trouble with his calculations. Sri Lanka is a beautiful place endowed with adventurous places and seas. The children in this institution are very responsive – and the arrival of our volunteers makes them excited. Education in Vietnam - goidex. Posted on: May 17, 2016 The Vietnam War, from 1955 to 1975, left Vietnam in ruins, with the North overtaking the South and faced with the task of creating one nation under communism.

Education in Vietnam - goidex

In the 50 years since the war’s end, Vietnam has worked to rebuild itself so it can find a place in the world market. However, it has a long way to go. One area where Vietnam struggles is education, which in theory is free and open to all, but in reality, excludes many because of life circumstances. We are in the landmark city of Ho Chi Minh City (formerly Saigon), Vietnam. Upon arriving at the school, I get a first hand view of the people with whom we shall be privileged to work. By the second week of our teaching, we see so much progress. Outside, where our little friend still waits with her father for customers, she no longer plays with sticks in the street but she sits, reading the whatever she has to herself and to her father, who tries to listen while keeping a lookout for anyone who needs a ride.
