Le prime definizioni e modelli teorici di Intelligenza Emotiva (IE) risalgono ai primi anni '90, quando cominciò ad emergere un sempre maggiore interesse sull'argomento, sia in generale, sia per le implicazioni che l'IE può avere nella vita quotidiana, nei rapporti interpersonali, ma in particolare nel mondo del lavoro. Il concetto di IE ebbe subito un grande impatto non solo sulla comunità scientifica, ma anche sul pubblico generale, tanto da diventare uno dei concetti più popolari degli ultimi dieci anni, con alcuni milioni di conessioni internet, e circa un migliaio di pubblicazioni scientifiche dedicate. La popolarità tra il pubblico di questo concetto è spiegabile da vari motivi e credenze, tra i quali: L'Intelligenza Emotiva è più mutevole della "intelligenza", quella misurata dal Quoziene di Intelligenza (QI), si può migliorare, è 'addestrabile';

Hypnosis - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypnosis Hypnosis is "a trance state characterized by extreme suggestibility, relaxation and heightened imagination." [ 1 ] It is a mental state (according to "state theory") or imaginative role-enactment (according to " non-state theory "). [ 2 ] [ 3 ] [ 4 ] It is usually induced by a procedure known as a hypnotic induction , which is commonly composed of a long series of preliminary instructions and suggestions. [ 5 ] Hypnotic suggestions may be delivered by a hypnotist in the presence of the subject, or may be self-administered ("self-suggestion" or "autosuggestion"). The use of hypnotism for therapeutic purposes is referred to as " hypnotherapy ", while its use as a form of entertainment for an audience is known as " stage hypnosis ". The words hypnosis and hypnotism both derive from the term neuro-hypnotism (nervous sleep) coined by the Scottish surgeon James Braid around 1841.

Aptitude tests are used to predict how well people will do in school and on jobs. These tests focus on particular skills or kinds of specific aptitude, like verbal or technical aptitude. But the last few decades of research have found that what really matters is general intelligence, not specific aptitudes, says Frank Schmidt of the University of Iowa, author of the new paper. "The factors that are measured by the specific aptitude tests independent of the general intelligence component in these tests don't make any contribution to job performance." http://medicalxpress.com/news/2011-10-technical-aptitude-women-score-arent.html

The Public Self is the part of ourselves that we are happy to share with others and discuss openly. Thus you and I both see and can talk openly about this ‘me’ and gain a common view of who I am in this element. There are often parts of our selves that are too private to share with others. We hide these away and refuse to discuss them with other people or even expose them in any way. Private elements may be embarrassing or shameful in some way. http://thisisnotpsychology.tumblr.com/post/9646127036/public-self-the-public-self-is-the-part-of

http://web.archive.org/web/20040202035152/www.apa.org/releases/homophob.html WASHINGTON -- Psychoanalytic theory holds that homophobia -- the fear, anxiety, anger, discomfort and aversion that some ostensibly heterosexual people hold for gay individuals -- is the result of repressed homosexual urges that the person is either unaware of or denies. A study appearing in the August 1996 issue of the Journal of Abnormal Psychology, published by the American Psychological Association (APA), provides new empirical evidence that is consistent with that theory. Researchers at the University of Georgia conducted an experiment involving 35 homophobic men and 29 nonhomophobic men as measured by the Index of Homophobia scale. All the participants selected for the study described themselves as exclusively heterosexual both in terms of sexual arousal and experience. Each participant was exposed to sexually explicit erotic stimuli consisting of heterosexual, male homosexual and lesbian videotapes (but not necessarily in that order).

Cult Influence & Persuasion Tactics

Since cults make liberal use of many influence techniques, I find them fascinating and study them whenever the chance arises. The following page discusses cult influence tactics, but I think it's important to first define what I mean when I use the word "cult," and examine some important issues surrounding the topic before diving in. "What exactly is a cult, anyway?" A cult is a group of people who organize around a strong authority figure. Cults, like many other groups, attempt to expand their influence for the purposes of power or money. However, to achieve these ends, destructive cults employ a potent mixture of influence techniques and deception to attain psychological control over members and new recruits. http://www.workingpsychology.com/cult.html
I was recently speaking with a teen aged girl who said: "I adore my father but I would never date anyone like him. He treats me like a princess, but I don't like the way he treats women." I was blown away by her ability to so succinctly articulate the complexity of her emotions about the two sides of her father; the man who loves her and the man who seemingly treats women as disposable, interchangeable, companions for the purposes of physical and social convenience.

Art by Laetitzia As we all know, communication is essential in society. Advancements in technology have transformed the way that we correspond with others in the modern world. We live in an era when launching apps, using an online QR code generator for immediate information, following turn-by-turn map navigation on our phones, and microblogging with tweets and instant photos have become the norm. Because of the constant buzz in our technological world, it's easy to forget how important communicating face-to-face is. When conversing old-school style, it's not only speech we verbalize that matters, but what our nonverbal gestures articulate as well. Body language is truly a language of its own.

So are there any reliable indicators of mendacity? Tics - fidgeting, stuttering - are mistakenly attributed to cheats across many societies (psychologist Charles Bond has noted this belief in 63 countries) without recourse to scientific proof. Ditto the avoidance of eye contact - dropping your inquisitor's gaze is often given anecdotally as confirmation of guilt. "Eye contact has been proven the least accurate thing to watch for," says Stan Walters, author of The Truth About Lying .

How to tell if somebody is lying: - Barking up the wrong tree

How confident should you be? - Barking up the wrong tree

Risk-averse people might say it pays to not be too confident. Others might feel being as realistic as possible makes sense. Being overconfident can clearly be dangerous because you can get in way over your head (I personally believe there is no such thing as a "pretty good" alligator wrestler.) According to a paper by Bruce Weinberg at Ohio State, moderate overconfidence looks like the way to go. It's enough to push you to try new things and set your goals high:
