Systemic lupus erythematosus. Systemic lupus erythematosus i/sɪˈstɛmɪk ˈluːpəs ˌɛrɪθiːməˈtoʊsəs/, often abbreviated as SLE or lupus, is a systemic autoimmune disease (or autoimmune connective tissue disease) that can affect any part of the body.

Systemic lupus erythematosus

As occurs in other autoimmune diseases, the immune system attacks the body's cells and tissue, resulting in inflammation and tissue damage.[1] It is both a type II[2] and a type III hypersensitivity reaction in which bound antibody-antigen pairs (immune complexes) precipitate and cause a further immune response. There is no cure for SLE. It is treated with immunosuppression, mainly with cyclophosphamide, corticosteroids and other immunosuppressants. SLE can be fatal. Psoriasis. No cure is available for psoriasis,[6] but various treatments can help to control the symptoms.[10][11] Though many treatments are available, psoriasis can be difficult to treat due to its chronic recurrent nature.

MS Trust - Information, education, research and support

'Shrinking the monster' is a technique I have been developing over the last year. The idea focuses on trying to imagine MS as something separate to you. Of course, we all know that this is not true. Where did the monster come from? As a neuropsychologist, I have often been asked to give talks on the emotional, psychological, cognitive and behavioural symptoms associated with MS.

I found myself thinking about the many medical conferences I have been to over the years in an effort to think of a more interesting topic to present to this group. How did the monster grow? The talk went well and in response to the group's positive feedback I discussed the theme with various colleagues in mental health. I decided to try and develop this idea of seeing MS as an external force that could be visualised in any way that made sense to the individual.
