Denny Khurniawan. Indonesia born Denny Khurniawan likes the beauty and simplicity in the graphic shapes of retro imagery. He’s an illustrator and animator worth checking out… A short animation piece. Ashley Wood Special (1) Ashley Wood is an Australian (comic book) artist who’s work has ranged from the UK and US comic book market over to everything from toys, computer games, film, TV and advertising to fine art gallery shows. This might just be me, but I found him to be an artist who you never could quite grab hold of.

His work was always around, in my local comic stores for example, but it seemed to appear and disappear without any rhyme or reason. One day there would be a new comic series but you would find two issues and then: nothing. Or suddenly there would be four or five gorgeous art books, all hugely expensive (for my budget at that time), which you would thumb through every time you visited the shop.

It seemed he was always doing something cool, but then something happened… Did he quit? Did the series get cancelled or was put on hold? I don’t know. I’m delving in the big pile of work and projects of Ashley Wood in this x-part series of specials. Can’t wait? Meathaüs. If you love drawings and illustrations, you are going to love Meathaüs. Just be warned: you’re not going to get much more work done today, if you decide to head over there to take a peek.

From good old fashioned drawings to weird and wonderful zines. Comics, illustrations and prints… You name it, they’ve got it. Once more: meathaus.com. Visit at your own risk. Studio Garcia again. The work of Jose Luis Garcia Lechner has been featured on Monsieur Bandit before (see?). A few days ago, the Spanish/Dutch freelance illustrator send me an email he just finished an exciting project. For the famous Swiss Chef Meta Hiltebrand he made all the illustrations for her new cookbook. A cookbook with nothing but illustrations! What a delight… Here are some examples of the stylish illustrations Garcia made. Way to go, Jose Luis! I’m feeling a bit peckish now… How strange. Illustrator Tips And Tricks | Articles. Designing in Adobe Illustrator sometimes makes me feel like a circus elephant balancing on a ball. I seem to go between both extremes—the wobbling newcomer and the stalwart veteran. As time has passed, I have learned more tips and tricks that help me keep my balance.

Here are a few of my favorite shortcuts and tips that will help you “stay on the ball.” The Copy Shortcut To reduce copying from two steps to one, select the item you want to copy with the selection tool, the black arrow. Hold down the option key and a double arrow will appear. Then drag to copy. And voilà! The Join Shortcut To quickly close an open-ended shape, use the direct selection tool, the white arrow, to grab the two open anchor points. Then hit command + J to close the shape. Tip: This trick is especially useful when you want to make a quick triangle. Text Stroke It is easy to give text a stroke. To avoid this problem, open the appearance window. Keeping the text selected, click on type and hit command + /. James Bond Illustrated. Looking for the album cover art for the James Bond Thunderball soundtrack (see yesterday's post) made me stumble across this great blog with tons of lovely Bond illustrations: posters, foreign language book covers, comics, fan art, you name it.

Check out some of the stuff I found and then visit illustrated007.blogspot.com for more… Do visit illustrated007.blogspot.com. It’s “loaded” with great stuff. Yeah, sorry about that. Heroes. Whooooops! I completely forgot to tell you about the new exhibition my friend Philip Paquet is having. Oh, boy, he’s going to be soooo crossed with me…. Well, you can forget about going to the opening. That was yesterday. The works on display are portraits from some of his favorite musical heroes. Half of the pieces are “normal” drawings, but the other half are these strange multi-layered semi-transparent paintings made out of some see-through emulsion. One more thing… Paquet’s show is held at Tune Up, which is a record store. It’s been ages since I have been to a place like that and man, it was awesome! One particular LP caught my eye: The soundtrack for the James Bond movie Thunderball. Imagine holding this image in your hands, record-sleeve-sized, printed on sturdy cardboard.

And you don’t buy the record. You don’t even own a record player. You leave the big, beautiful, square record sleeve in the store. But maybe, just maybe, you’ll go back tomorrow and get it anyway… Gilliom Interview (monsieurbandit.blogspot.com) in english. J’ai traduit cette interview en français ici, même si vous ne parlez pas anglais allez jeter un œil à ce site car les images parlent d’elle-mêmes. I have discovered monsieurbandit.blogspot.com a few weeks ago. It was one of the best surprises of 2011 for me. Why ? Because monsieurbandit.blogspot.com is a really rich blog about art, street art, illustration, animations and videos. I saw so much amazing stuff that it would be difficult for me to list some. I advise you to go first on that blog and to read this interview next. Anyway, over to Gilliom The first 3 things that came to my mind when I discovered your site were (except animation/illustration): Miro, Experimentation, childhood.

“Miro”? What is monsieurbandit.blogspot.com ? Two years ago I didn’t even have a computer and disliked the mere thought of owning one. Does monsieurbandit.blogspot.com influence your work’s process? At the moment, very little. Did you meet people professionally through your blog? Not that I know of. Anything. Puño. Puño, from Spain, but living in France, works for the press, advertising, books and makes comics. I love his happy-go-lucky style. Check out kokokoko his portfolio/tumblr for plenty more of his work. Old Fangs. Funny and Thought Provoking - Frank Chimero (11 Pics) Frank Chimero is a designer and illustrator who's work is both funny and thought provoking.

What I enjoy most about his work is that he simplifies design to its most basic form and creates a story behind it that people can connect with. His work effortlessly combines humor with style to create a unique point of view that's honest. There's a great interview about him at grain edit. Here are a few of my favorite excerpts: His Biggest Influence: I think I can easily say that my biggest influence is Alan Fletcher. When I first started studying graphic design, one of my professors slipped a copy of “The Art of Looking Sideways” under my nose. And I think it changed my life. But Fletcher was different.

The World as an Influence: I find objects like Coke bottles, pencils and coffee cups really appealing because people understand them. “This election gives us a rare opportunity to make a choice and commit to one of two drastically different sets of ideals. Frank Chimero website. The Return of Isidro Ferrer. This weekend I noticed that the video on one of my posts on Isidro Ferrer (from the beginning of last year, the very beginnings of this blog!) Was missing. ( See here and here and here for the other posts) What a shame! I so loved the little video which showed lots of work and a glimpse of the studio of this Spanish illustrator/graphic designer. After I dried my tears I decided to try and contact the people who put the video on Vimeo in the first place. You never know, maybe they would put the video back up soon?

Nah. But…. they did point me in the direction of a rather new portfolio site Ferrer put up, one which I had never seen before and which had tons and tons of his beautiful work on display! So: time for a new post on Isidro Ferrer who is, you guessed that by now, one of my favorite image makers around. For plenty more examples of his work, visit Isidro Ferrer's portfolio site.
