What Is a Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP) Most kids get in trouble now and then at school. But if a child acts out over and over again, it can be hard for them (and their classmates) to learn in school. To help a child behave, a school may put in place a formal plan. Here’s what you need to know about behavior intervention plans (or BIPs). What’s a Behavior Intervention Plan? A BIP is a written plan that teaches and rewards good behavior. It can be a single page or many pages. The purpose is to prevent or stop misbehavior, not just punish the child. The plan has three key parts. How do schools figure out why a child is misbehaving? The school team may interview the child, the teacher, and other staff. Here’s an example of how a BIP might work. The child is sent to the principal’s office almost every day.

There are many possible reasons kids might disrupt class like this. Sometimes, kids don’t know why they do what they do. You may hear it called the MTSS framework, the MTSS process or the MTSS model. No matter what it’s called, MTSS has a very important goal. It’s designed to help schools identify struggling students early and to intervene quickly. MTSS is a framework that many schools use to provide targeted support to struggling students. The multi-tiered supports are a huge part of MTSS. Some school districts use a system with four tiers of support. Tier 1: The Whole Class. MTSS is an “umbrella” term. Response to Intervention (RTI) focuses on academics. RTI. Response to Intervention (RTI) is a multi-tier approach to the early identification and support of students with learning and behavior needs. The RTI process begins with high-quality instruction and universal screening of all children in the general education classroom. Struggling learners are provided with interventions at increasing levels of intensity to accelerate their rate of learning. These services may be provided by a variety of personnel, including general education teachers, special educators, and specialists.

Progress is closely monitored to assess both the learning rate and level of performance of individual students. Educational decisions about the intensity and duration of interventions are based on individual student response to instruction. For RTI implementation to work well, the following essential components must be implemented with fidelity and in a rigorous manner: High-quality, scientifically based classroom instruction. Responsive Classroom Morning Meeting is an engaging way to start each day, build a strong sense of community, and set children up for success socially and academically. Each morning, students and teachers gather together in a circle for twenty to thirty minutes and interact with one another during four purposeful components: Greeting: Students and teachers greet one other by name.Sharing: Students share information about important events in their lives.

Listeners often offer empathetic comments or ask clarifying questions.Group Activity: Everyone participates in a brief, lively activity that fosters group cohesion and helps students practice social and academic skills (for example, reciting a poem, dancing, singing, or playing a game).Morning Message: Students read and interact with a short message written by their teacher. Brain Breaks for kids is the simple technique in which young students are given a short mental break taken at regular intervals. They are usually performed in a classroom or academic environment, but can also be used in similar non-traditional learning environments for largely the same effect.

Most brain breaks range from around 5 to 20 minutes as a general rule, although most people prefer to keep them short and on point. For maximum success, it’s usually best to include a physical activity that will compliment mental energy. The Benefits of Brain Breaks for Kids Benefits of using brain breaks include helping kids to be calmer, remain focused while also stimulating physical activity. As we all know, kids have a ton of expendable energy and it can often present itself at inopportune times.
