5 Day Weather Forecast for Barcelona. An introduction to Catalan cuisine. Sure, Barcelona has become a cauldron of culinary kookiness, with the foams and froths of master chef Ferran Adrià and his disciples.

An introduction to Catalan cuisine

But you can still get a taste of yesteryear and traditional Catalan cooking. With a reputation for producing some of Spain’s finest cuisine, it’s not just a matter of a few regional dishes but a gastronomy distinct from that found elsewhere in the country or in neighbouring France. A geographically diverse region, Catalonia produces a variety of fresh, high-quality seafood, meat, poultry, game, fruit and vegetables. These can come in unusual combinations: meat and seafood (a genre known as mar i muntanya – the local equivalent of surf 'n' turf ), poultry and fruit, fish and nuts. Catalans find it hard to understand why other people put butter on bread when pa amb tomàquet – toasted or grilled bread slices rubbed with tomato, olive oil, garlic and salt – is so much tastier. Pernil (ham) and formatge (cheese) are culinary constants.

Gay parades banned in Moscow for 100 years

Earlier Russia's best-known gay rights campaigner, Nikolay Alexeyev, had gone to court hoping to overturn the city council's ban on gay parades. He had asked for the right to stage such parades for the next 100 years. He also opposes St Petersburg's ban on spreading "homosexual propaganda". On Friday he said he would go back to the European Court in Strasbourg to push for a recognition that Moscow's ban on gay pride marches - past, present and future - was unjust.

The Moscow city government argues that the gay parade would risk causing public disorder and that most Muscovites do not support such an event. In October 2010 the court said Russia had discriminated against Mr Alexeyev on grounds of sexual orientation. Hola, som The Mamzelles. Hola, som The Mamzelles. Jobs for Loners.
