First year Civil Engineering & Architecture students got a class assignment to use Java for building a generative table lamp through parametric design. The students were given 2 months to finish the assignment. The best design would be chosen to be 3D printed. Since we couldn”t choose between 2 of them, we decided to print out both. The first one we really liked was the Cube lamp by Pierre-Henri Sourbrier and Bram Vandaele.

Clementine is a sucker for anything shiny, so this exhibit was right up her alley. Park’s installation is composed of thirty-some separate metal and plexiglass sculptures that are linked to create shimmering structures. These pieces are suspended around the gallery at varying heights, and grouped to create a four-dimensional composition. Because of the shapes of these structures, it is tempting to label them “clouds,” but they are decidedly un-cloudlike. The metal resembles an organically formed chain-link fence, which forces an association with institutional security.
Within each chain-link is a plexiglass square with reflective film on the outward-facing side. I’m not sure about Clementine, but for me the most striking feature of the exhibit was the quality of light produced by the conglomeration of individual cells.

Dicha colección está conformada por cinco piezas: un gabinete, un cajón, una mesa de centro, una lámpara y un puff, cuyos diseños toman inspiración de una planta conocida como “Lunaria”, la cual es principalmente distribuida por Europa, Norteamérica y el sudeste de Asia. Las características de “Lunaria” (tallos pilosos, bienal, hojas grandes y de vainas translúcidas que permanecen en la planta durante el invierno), conforman la esencia de la colección.
