Ranchu. Origins and evolution[edit] The modern-day ranchu is a Japanese development of the lionhead.[1] They are the direct outcome of crossbreeding experiments of different Chinese lionhead specimens.[2] A chocolate-colored ranchu.

Ranchu

Description and standards[edit] A ranchu has an egg-shaped body with a deep belly that is between 5/8 to 3/4 the length of the fish. This goldfish does not have a dorsal fin and breeding standards require that the back should not have any vestiges of the dorsal fin on it. The most prominent feature of the ranchu is its head. Ranchus are well-adapted to water quality and pH fluctuations.[3] Classification, deportment and conformation[edit] Japanese, Thai, American and British ranchu breeders, as well as many prestigious goldfish-keeping societies, all adhere to two strict viewing classifications of the ranchu, namely: the top-view ranchu comportment and the side-view selection criteria.[2][3][4][5][6] But Japanese aesthetic standards for ranchus are more exacting.

Ryukin. The ryukin is a short deep-bodied fancy goldfish with a characteristic hump in the shoulder region.[2][3] Description[edit] The ryukin is a hardy and attractive variety of goldfish with a pointed head and has a pronounced hump on the back behind the head.

Ryukin

It may be long-finned or short-finned with either a triple or quadruple tail. The dorsal fin is high while the caudal fin is often twice as long as the body. The caudal fin may also have three or four lobes.[2][3] The ryukin is a fine aquarium fish that can reach up to 8 inches (21 centimeters) in length.[2][3] History and origins[edit] The ryukin has been so named because it was said to have arrived in Japan through the Ryukyu Islands which lies between Taiwan and Japan. Confused by Sylvania fluorescent... - Growing under Lights Forum

This is the distribution of light given off by a warm or hot object, and the peak wavelength in nm is exactly related to the temperature in K. Fluorescents give off a different distribution of wavelengths but it is averaged out and then labelled with the temperature of the most similar blackbody radiation. Manufacturers make bulbs with different spectrums to look better (or cheaper but not so good) for humans.

All fluorescents are not made with the same exact same red and blue phosphors, but the vast majority of compact fluorescents are made with the exact same three red, green, and blue phosphors, and are called triphosphor lamps. Straight fluorescent tubes are more easily available with different phosphors. The Gro-Lux fluorescent range is made with different phosphors that are better suited to plants but no so visible to humans, hence they look dim although they are producing about the same amount of light.
