They have exhibited an annual series of masterfully simple do-it-yourself projects made from the most basic of materials – primarily wood with just a bit of metal wire or mesh and a piece or two of plastic. Best of all, they create a free and open set of instructions for anyone who plans to make their own. For their first year (2009), the Recession Design group focused mostly on wood objects for the home. These ranged from basic tables and desks to modular shelving and hanging bookcase designs. Some took a more pragmatic approach, emphasizes the bare necessities of furniture functionality. In their second year (2010), the group shifted focus to spaces outside of the home – offices, schools, shops and other educational, institutional and commercial programs.

The atelier Boffi known for its contemporary interiors and modern furnishings, has collaborated with the Milan-based Bulgarian architect Victor Vasilev, known for his graceful mix of modern and traditional elements. The Milan based architect has designed innovative storage solutions in blind shape for Italian manufacturer Boffi, drawing inspiration by the profiles of high-rise building touching the sky in metro-cities.
Dubbed as CTline, these blinds for inside actually features vertical units with shelves that impressively works as ‘staggered floors’ in varied heights and depths. Notably, this modular shelving system creates a characteristic composition with an irregular profile. Though, the CTline was originally intended to be used in a library by Mr. Victor Vasilev, but Boffi has decided to position them in the home. Designed to afloat on an angle with the levels that look like building floors, the different sized tall shelves reminds one of the New York City’s skyline.
Estudiantes de la UNAM exportan diseño a Italia. CIUDAD DE MÉXICO, 25 de febrero.- Una estructura de metal cubierta de plástico, que refiere a la conciencia ecológica, se convertirá en una suerte de ventana por la que el mundo conocerá el diseño mexicano.
En específico, la producción de muebles a cargo de estudiantes de la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM). Sillas, mesas, cocinas, percheros, artículos de decoración, objetos deportivos y textiles son algunas de las piezas que a través de una “interfaz” podrán viajar de manera virtual hasta Italia y exhibirse en el Salón Internacional del Mueble en Milán, que realizará su edición número 51, del 17 al 22 de abril. Se trata de la feria del diseño de mobiliario considerada la más “importante” a escala mundial, pues cada año reúne a los mejores diseñadores de 150 países y logra convocar a más de 30 mil personas.
