The home humbly nestles into this order… The entire length of the house opens up to the expanse of vineyard before your eyes. Yet a lintel overhanging the plate glass window marks the border between homely serenity and the melee of vines… Breakwater: at the foot of the dining room, large rocks turn back the momentous tide of nature… Space is not distance, it’s infinity… The desks in the children’s rooms overlook the vineyard, their heritage.

3D Printing Can Turbocharge Mashup Culture

Although remixes, mashups, sampling, and collage predate the internet by decades (if not centuries), easy, accessible digital tools have allowed anyone to remix videos, music, and photographs into their own original works. Mashup culture has produced fantastic music , critical video, and delightful cultural artifacts of all kinds. However, for all of its successes, mashups are ultimately limited by the nature of their source material.

The types of things that mashups draw from – videos, music, photos – are also the types of things that are protected by copyright. Enter 3D printing. Lawlolawl Redux Posted by Pete on Tuesday, March 15, 2011 · Leave a Comment The previous version of Lawlolawl, which was about the fifth (I’ve lost count at this point), was certainly fancy looking, but it didn’t quite present content in the way that I wanted it to. The vertical post listing was difficult to navigate through, and at some times messy where thumbnails didn’t even appear.

So, I began work with a theme that would present games and cartoons in a tile format (now visible at the Toons and Games sections). I’m still working out the kinks (Lawl’d 1 and Rick R’lold do not want to move up to their appropriate slots) and widening the site (adding more pages and navigation links), but because I’m leaving for a four day college excursion thingie, I won’t be immediately around my computer to work with the final touches.
