The Institute for Digital Fabrication invited us to lead the workshop/installation with student help, following three main constraints: *Timeline- 5 Days: One day devoted to design, one day of modeling in Rhino / Grasshopper and materials testing, and three shared days of fabrication, assembly, and installation. *Budget- $500 materials budget: white acrylic, white polystyrene, and 55 cord sockets and bulbs. *Site- Ceiling above the foyer at the west entrance of the architecture building. 3D Printing Flexible Grids. We’re constantly looking for new examples of what we can print using our 3d printer. I tend to enjoy the prints that have lots of little parts that can move. Most of his posts on the RepRap Builders blog posts deal with his adventures and research into SLS fabrication – basically directing a laser over a bed of powder to fuse powder in successive layers into a 3D object. Since the object is being created in a bed of powder and any new layer is supported by the powder above it, the powder print media becomes it’s own support material. The closed surface model must be converted into a "solid" object, which is described by the STL file. Hyphae – a new collection from Nervous System. Hyphae is a collection of 3D printed artifacts constructed of rhizome-like networks. Inspired by the vein structures that carry fluids through organisms from the leaves of plants to our own circulatory systems, we created a simulation which uses physical growth principles to build sculptural, organic structures. Starting from an initial seed and a surface, we grow a hierarchical network where nodes constantly branch and merge. The densely interconnected structure is at once airy and strong. Our most diverse collection to date, Hyphae contains a range of necklaces, earrings, cuffs, bangles, rings and brooches. Pleated Sukkah Eva Perez de Vega, Ian Gordon Emerging from a flat assembly of honeycomb cardboard panels, no larger than 4 handbreadths, the sukkah structure wraps around itself to create an intimate space open to one side. This area serves as an initial gathering zone prior to entering the enclosed area, which is larger than seven by seven square handbreadths and provides a protected area for meal times. The highest part of the sukkah allows tall people to stand comfortably while the lowest areas at the sides of the structure provide intimate zones for sleeping and relaxing.

Representaion GSAPP SP11. This is the second tutorial at Columbia University GSAPP Studio Daniels Core II Spring 2011.
