Los angeles CALIFORNIA suckerPUNCH: describe your project. robert GILSON: Anti-Air: Air, or the invisible atmosphere that surrounds us, can be activated. Air can be transformed naturally or artificially into an “anti-air.” Twenty-four slaughterhouse workers have reported symptoms of extreme numbness and paralysis. Researchers find that brain mist, a microscopic industrial byproduct, can impair human motor functions when inhaled. The atmosphere was first understood to be a weapon at the 1915 battle of Ypres when German troops deployed chlorine gas to poison the environment of their Canadian opponents. Instead of harming human flesh, the environment that sustains life was targeted.

A large wave, albeit one made of aluminum and wood, is about to break on Kingsdale Avenue.

The Redondo Beach City Council on Tuesday night served as a de facto art jury and selected “Gate Wave,” a large public artwork that will be built later this year alongside the new transit center adjacent to the Galleria Mall in North Redondo Beach. “These are all great pieces,” said Councilman Bill Brand.

Cutlery set. Cutlery refers to any hand implement used in preparing, serving, and especially eating food. Aside of the functional aspect of tableware, silverware has always been and will perpetually be an ornamental figure. Conceived to pleasure the eye while fulfilling one of our most primary needs of food consumption and or squander. Cutlery is unique in its ability to sustain time and carries a remarkable family heritage. Sets of knifes, spoons, forks have been passed on from generation to generation all over the globe, traveling the whole world as a piece of personal history.

Key elements while designing this set was the notion of decay/processing, ornamental and aesthetic excess as in former rococo and barock times, moments of collapse/disequilibrium and a balance in between etiquette dining and painful torture tools. By subverting the logic of perfection and beauty, non-perfect images coming from controlled methodologies were generated. Dimentions: fork - 26 * 187 * 16 mm. Too many columns. Vienna AUSTRIA suckerPUNCH: describe your project. stephan SOBL: The epitome of a Hypostyle Hall in my project is a field of massive and fragile columns that define a variation of spatial and volumetric interiors of the terminal.

Denser areas of the field create intimate spaces and become areas to rest whereas less dens areas are circulation routes and contain architectural program. Large enclosed spaces provided static spatial formations in the form of a performance hall. While progressing through, these programmatic shifts breakdown in scale into dynamic spaces, such as boutiques, restaurants, nightlife, commercial and event spaces, eventually blending into a landscape underneath the Highline Park. In general, these shifts in program occur through subtle changes in surface performance and yet flow as a coherent entity. sP: what or who influenced this project? rD+cD: Greg Lynn, Peter Testa, Devyn Weiser, Coop Himmelb(l)au. An Atmosphere Excavated by John Becker. The Columbia University School of Architecture graduate also constructed an invented history of the brand, but based the story on the real-life practice of collecting water in "dew ponds" and set the story in a real location in southern England. Images from top: interior, exterior and section of Reserve House, constructed 2071 of amalgamated chalk to store vintage bottles of water. Entitled An Atmosphere Excavated, the story starts in 1786 and continues to 2074, when the "dew pond" system has been commercialised by the Ethereal water brand.

Above: vintage water harvested from dew and marked with the date it was bottled. "The site itself is fictional, but intended to pass as real in order to build the story on a foundation that is easily accepted," says Becker. Above: 18th Century engraving depicting dew ponds on the site Becker completed the project while studying at a studio named Glacier, Island, Storm taught by Geoff Manaugh of BLDGBLOG. Here's the story written by Becker: See also: Scent Pavilion by Alan Lu. Here's another student project, this time a pavilion designed by Alan Lu at the University of California.

The conceptual pavilion was designed for a fictional perfume brand and would be situated at the Imperial Palace in Kyoto, Japan. The information below is from Alan Lu: I am a forth year (last year) architecture student at University of California, Berkeley in the U.S. The work was done as part of a comprehensive graduate studio led by Peter Testa of Testa & Weiser, completed this fall (2008). The brief for this project is a pavilion structure situated in the Imperial Palace in Kyoto, Japan for a fictitious perfume production company. As an interface between the public and scent fabrication, the scent pavilion emerged from fluid simulations and branching networks.

The program for the pavilion called for a series of small compact experimental growing chambers for plant materials from two distinct climate zones. The project treats the site as a substrate for the development of a new social microcosm amongst the industrial wasteland that surrounds the outer reaches of Moscow. This microcosm is broken down into four programmatically distinct sectors. Each sector is elevated above the existing site and serviced by its own specially designed monorail. 1) Research-Based City - A Research Institute and technical university providing higher education to residents of this microcosm and focused on finding new and productive ways to work with the industrial residue left behind by the Manufacturing-centric Soviet Union. 2) ZiL Prospekt - The main cultural avenue of the project. 3 years ago.

Dazzle - p*g5ive. One of the great lessons of the 20th century that our particular generation of architects has inherited is our appreciation of the ultra-thin scale: the primal math containing the profound secrets to all biological matter. The significant value for architecture in this lies in our capacity to speculate upon biological mimesis as a new paradigm for both material and programmatic behavior. In appreciation of this shift towards the "play of surface," Dazzle Topologies proposes that the new battle ground for architectural speculation resides within the ultra-thin scale of our future architectural membranes. Posited as a new taxonomy of intelligent animate behavior, the new skins of the 21st century will represent a radical alchemy of unimaginable programmatic, morphological and technological performance unparalleled in modern times.

From the website: Subdivided Columns - A New Order (2010)This project involves the conception and design of a new column order based on subdivision processes.

It explores how subdivision can define and embellish this column order with an elaborate system of ornament. An abstracted doric column is used as an input form to the subdivision processes.
