Kraft Unveils App for Apple's IPad - Advertising Age - Digital. Virgin Plans Launch of iPad-Only Magazine [REPORT] Virgin and publishing company Seven Squared are planning to launch a new consumer magazine that will be available exclusively as an app for iPad, iPhone and eventually Android devices, according to AdAge. The magazine, titled Maverick, will reportedly focus on the entrepreneurial space, highlighting "new creative, business, travel and technology ideas" to an "upscale international audience," a la Fast Company and WIRED.

Consultancy AI will oversee the magazine's creative duties. Maverick is tentatively scheduled to launch in October — if Holly Branson, the 28-year old daughter of Virgin's Founder and Chairman Sir Richard Branson, can persuade enough premium advertisers to sign up by then. According to an executive "close to the matter," response has been so positive that the title may very well be able to choose which brands it will sign for the first round of advertising contracts.

"More than eight million people will own iPads by the end of the year," the Virgin executive commented. How To Use Twitter On The iPad. The iPad Backlash Begins. Jeff Jarvis Is Returning His iPad. The iPad has the potential to provide an all-in-one tablet that people are going to use everywhere—on their couch, while on vacation, and from all the places in between.

Really, the iPad is as close as technology convergence has come to creating a jack-of-all-trades black-box device. The ability to add in video, multimedia, and other interactive components can provide marketers with an opportunity to create a rich and immersive mobile-consumption experience for consumers. No doubt brands are salivating at the chance to use the device to connect with consumers. Just as it does with the iPhone, content will play a deciding factor in determining how users interact with the iPad.

The content-is-king concept is nothing you haven't heard before, but the potential content available through the iPad is like nothing we've seen in past media tablets. If you haven't invested in an iPhone app right now, that's the place to start. Moreover, the real debate here will be an economic one. Editing Word Documents on an iPad. Unlike the iPhone and iPod touch, the iPad was designed with the needs of typists in mind. The screen size, the large virtual keyboard in landscape orientation, and the support for external keyboards make the iPad a natural choice for word processing on the go. For many people, that means reading, editing, and saving Microsoft Word documents.

Even though there's no iPad version of Word, you can work with Word documents on your iPad if you're willing to accept a few compromises. Edit Documents With Pages Apple's $10 Pages for the iPad ( Macworld rated 3 out of 5 mice ) can import documents in Word format and offers most of Word's major features. One way to get a Word document into Pages is to e-mail it to yourself. After editing a document in Pages, you must export it before you can open it in Word on your Mac. iPad Mobile Marketing Applications. When the Apple iPhone App Store launched a couple of years ago, we saw a flurry of marketing applications released.

Some were exceptional. Many were average. iPhone apps were "hot," and consumer brands rushed to build them. They were somewhat expensive with most of the return based on press mentions and buzz. Brands felt that the perception of tech-savviness generated by the presence of an iPhone application would enhance their brand. Two years ago, consumers mostly used their cell phones for communication. Here we are in 2010. I had my first look at the relatively new GAP iPad application today. What I struggled with initially: - The application was larger than 20 MB so I had to connect to a Wi-Fi network. . - I didn't "get" all of the functionality initially - wasn't sure what was interactive and what did what. . - I didn't immediately understand that there were no borders - that the content was circulated as if a sphere.

What I found really compelling: The iPad: A Revolutionary Classroom Tool. The amount of applications Seton Hill University will receive for their Class of 2014 has likely skyrocketed, all because of iPads. OK, so that’s probably not true – please, seniors, don’t base your college decisions on some (very sweet) free swag – but Seton Hill certainly upped the ante when they announced they’d be giving all full-time students iPads. This isn’t exactly a new idea as much as it is a twist on an old one. Some schools have been giving students laptops for years, but the iPad isn’t just a laptop and, in some ways, is a totally brilliant idea for classroom learning and college life.

It’s an opportunity to make class materials less expensive and studying more convenient than even a free laptop does. It’s also a chance to harness new technology to make accessing important information easier for students. Seton Hill mentions students using their iPad to download their textbooks and take notes in class. Maybe the iPad has a real place in learning institutions. iPad 3G: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly. The iPad 3G hit stores and customer mailboxes on Friday afternoon, but how does this slightly modified model compare against the original?

Is the ability to use 3G worth the extra $130 per model? After spending the weekend using the iPad 3G and comparing it head-to-head with a Wi-Fi-only model, we hope we can help potential buyers figure out what iPad model might be best for them. For my own comparison, I used a 32 GB Wi-Fi-only unit that was purchased on launch day and a 64 GB Wi-Fi+3G model that arrived Friday.

Both units were connected via 802.11n to the same home network and my 3G tests were done in the area of my house that gives the best AT&T 3G signal. Look and Feel First and foremost, the iPad 3G is, well, an iPad. One nice thing to note — the iPad 3G is sold unlocked — meaning you can use a micro SIM from another GSM carrier in place of AT&T. Data Plan Options When it comes to setting up the 3G data plan on the unit, the process is very straightforward. iPad 3G: The Good. Must-Have iPad Apps for Business Professionals. With less than 48 hours until the official launch of the Apple iPad, the App Store is beginning to populate with apps for the new tablet device. The first iPad apps include the requisite entertainment--like the Netflix movie-streaming app, or Need for Speed: Shift--but there are also a fair number of apps targeted specifically at business professionals. I realize that there are techies out there who bristle every time the iPad is mentioned as any sort of business or productivity tool.

To some, anything with a half-eaten fruit logo is--by default--not meant for enterprise endeavors. This group will no doubt hold out for a Windows 7 tablet like the HP Slate, or perhaps a tablet based on the upcoming Google Chrome OS. Fair enough.
