I have been off of work the past two days and I got to enjoy a quick little road trip up to Indianapolis with my parents. It was short, but still very fun and it was great to see them again. It was sad to see them go! You may have noticed (or you may not), but I have made a few more cosmetic changes to the blog!

I'm pretty excited about it.My mom and I hit some antique malls on the drive up to Indy, which is always exciting. It's rare to find cheap old clothing at antique stores, but I ended up snagging a dress for a refashion project at a good price! I'll be sure to post that tutorial another time. Finally, you guys get to look at a new face! This is my friend Lauren; isn't she beautiful? So here's the story: Lauren had a dress that she loved, but after shrinking in the laundry a few too many times, it became too short.

We headed out to Hobby Lobby and found this really pretty lace trim that would make the dress a better length. There are fabulous patterns available for knitted and crocheted hats, but I don’t do those crafts so I didn’t list them. If you do knit and crochet, take a look here. Fleece hats are all the rage now, so naturally there are a lot of free patterns on the web. For more fleece hats, also look under hats for kids. For more fleece hat patterns, see Free Fleece Hat Patterns A headscarf is the easiest type of hat to make. Initially popular only among bikers, mainstream women have discovered doo-rags, too.

Lots of funky hat for kids. I used to wear berets a lot during the 90’s, but lately they seem to be out of style. A great hat, can make the whole costume. These hats are a bit more advanced than most of the hats listed on this page. This category is for all the hat styles that don’t seem to fit elsewhere. I am not sure how helpful these books will be, but you will enjoy looking at them. Read More : Sewing or Home. 1930s Futuristic Fashion Predictions. 100 YEARS / STYLE / EAST LONDON. #009: Double-Breasted Summer Paletot $33.00 (US dollars) The popularity of the paletot in the mid-19th century is without question. Farid Chemoune, author of A History of Men's Fashion, quotes La Fashion which lamented in 1840, "Paletots, yet more paletots, more paletots still! They have become more fashionable for every class, for every hour of the day, for every occasion. " The paletot is cut with a separate side-body, which makes it fit the body closely. The pattern contains a brief history of the paletot from the 1840's-1870's which describes the difference between a paletot and a frock coat: hand sewing instructions, alterations and sewing instructions in 11 well-illustrated steps. Order the pattern in one of the Three Chest Sizes: Sizes 34"-38", Sizes 40"- 46", and Sizes 48"- 54". The Fabric Requirements are for a man who stands 5'6" tall.

The Racing Coat or Paletot - The Coatmaker's Forum - The Cutter and Tailor. It always seems a bit of shame to me to cut a bespoke sac overcoat - such a wasted opportunity to make something more waisted! A fitted bespoke overcoat quietly announces its pedigree to a far greater degree than any lounge coat. One forgotten type of semi-body coat construction can be seen in what older cutters either call a paletot or a racing coat.

The particular features of this coat are the back constructed like a body coat with side bodies to allow it to fit the curvature of the back and waist to a far greater degree to that permitted by the lay of lounge-Chesterfield type of coats. Here is one fine example from The International System by J.P. Notice how the first fashion plate shows it make up with concealed buttons and double stitching - both very nice details. Here is another example from Das Lehrbuch der Zuschneidekunst, 1925: There should be no reason for the back not to fit as immaculately as depicted in the fashion plate: Fabric. Sewing Electronic Textiles. Soldering to EL Wire | EL Wire. Nanofabrics. Nanofabrics are textiles engineered with small particles that give ordinary materials advantageous properties such as superhydrophobicity (extreme water resistance, also see "Lotus effect"),[1] odor and moisture elimination,[2] increased elasticity and strength,[3] and bacterial resistance.[4] Depending on the desired property, a nanofabric is either constructed from nanoscopic fibers called nanofibers, or is formed by applying a solution containing nanoparticles to a regular fabric.

Nanofabrics research is an interdisciplinary effort involving bioengineering,[5] molecular chemistry, physics, electrical engineering, computer science, and systems engineering.[3] Applications of nanofabrics have the potential to revolutionize textile manufacturing [6] and areas of medicine such as drug delivery and tissue engineering.[7] Electron microscope image of cotton fibers coated with gold (left) and palladium (right) nanoparticles. Introduction[edit] Sol-gel[edit] Electrospinning[edit] Nano & Me - Nano Products - Nano in Textiles & Clothing. Nano style Nano is used in textiles mainly to provide stain-resistance or anti-bacterial properties.

Some clothes made from these textiles can now be purchased in high-street shops, usually with these properties described on the tags attached, though they may not mention the words nano or nanotechnologies. Stain-resistant fabrics If you spill something, even something as drastic as red wine, down the front of your nano-enhanced shirt or suit, all you have to do is wipe it off with a dry cloth and it looks like new.

This is often called The Lotus Effect What is the 'Lotus Effect'? The leaves of a lotus plant actually repel water and other liquids, even glues. The plant does this using its own nanotechnology. This doesn’t just happen with lotus leaves. The 'Lotus Effect' in fabrics Anti-bacterialfabrics Silver nanoparticles are being included in a lot of different fabrics as anti-bacterial agents to stop smelly socks and odorous armpits. Nanotechnology Fabric. How can nanotechnology improve fabrics? Making composite fabric with nano-sized particles or fibers allows improvement of fabric properties without a significant increase in weight, thickness, or stiffness as might have been the case with previously-used techniques.

For example incorporating nano-whiskers into fabric used to make pants produces a lightweight water and stain repellent material.
