Southwestern Black Bean Salad. Our Favorite Simple Crockpot Tomato Sauce. Today I’m being a hypocrite. Well, sorta. If you’ve read this blog for, like, five minutes then you know that tomato sauce is not my favorite thing. While I enjoy some Italian food in moderation, it is still easily my least favorite cuisine and most tomato sauces can take a hike… unless it’s a just a small spread on pizza. I’d still choose white pizza first. Pizza sauce amounts and consistencies are a huge source of contention in this house. So a few years ago when I tried this original tomato sauce recipe? Uh huh, that there’s a bottle of Bulliet bourbon in the background there. Just my luck – I married someone Irish who doesn’t want tomato sauce 24/7. I find the original recipe to be pretty perfect. That is my life. Print Save Favorite Crockpot Tomato Sauce Yield: serves 4-6 Total Time: 8 hours Ingredients: Directions: Drain 2 cans of the tomatoes, reserving the juice if you desire.

Grilled Vegetable Sandwiches with Fontina. A long time ago, my mother made grilled vegetable sandwiches and packed them for lunch when a group of friends and I went on a trip. They were rich vegetarian sandwiches, and time-consuming to make. There were eggplant and peppers and zucchini to roast, and pestos and tapenade to grind or buy. Fortunately, the sandwiches got better with time, so all the work was worth it, my friends and I thought as we unwrapped the sandwiches en route.

Instead of growing soggy, the flavors melded and developed. The original recipe came from Gourmet, I think, but that trip with friends was in 1997, and the print recipe is likely long gone. Then these pressed sandwiches started showing up everywhere on Pinterest, and I thought about how well my mom’s vegetable sandwiches would adapt to that form–small, pressed sandwich squares made from focaccia.

From memory, I picked fontina cheese for its creamy-sharp combination. More sandwiches, for all your picnic needs: Turkey Club from YumSugar **Recipe** Birthday Cake Muffins. There’s a teenager officially in the house. I thought I’d be sad about that. But, he’s a great kid. He made me breakfast in bed this morning for no good reason at all. And at night he scoots a chair up next to me while I blog and puts his hand on my knee. See? The little brother and sisters and I did a bit of sneaky shopping on Friday, the day before our teenagers birthday.

With plans to string streamers and wrap presents, we began with whispered excitement until…I went out the to car to discover that we’d been given ALL the bags of purchased stuff, EXCEPT the ones with the birthday gifts. So, that great kid of mine woke early to an empty kitchen table, a few measly streamers that had drooped overnight, and no eggs in the fridge for a fabu birthday breakfast. Something had to be done. So, I pulled five simple ingredients from the fridge and pantry, stirred them together, and conjured muffins that made that teenager of mine actually say, “mom! A Festive, Fun (but easy!) Dessert - Chocolate Obsession Cake. I’ve been making this delicious chocolate cake for almost as long as I can remember. I’d love to tell you that Chocolate Obsession Cake is it’s original name, but I would be telling a lie…………. a BIG lie………….. You see, I made the name up a number of years ago when I was teaching a cooking class revolving around preparing an elegant Valentine Dinner.

I mean really, does Texas Sheet Cake (the real name) sound like a fancy-dancy sophisticated Valentine dessert? It doesn’t in my book…….. but it is a fabulous cake; rich and decadent, dense yet light ………… and delicious enough to qualify as a gourmet indulgence …………………. so I just gave it a festive new moniker and a bit of a face-lift! As it’s true name suggests, this cake can be made in a flash with a large (Texas-style) cookie sheet pan. Simplest Store Cupboard Tomato Sauce | Simple Provisions. As you may gather, I like simple recipes. I especially like simple recipes that take pantry ingredients and transform them into a rich, luscious meal that is worthy of note.

This one does that using canned tomatoes, the stalwart of the store cupboard. It’s entirely likely that even if I don’t think I have any tomatoes in the pantry, I can reach in behind the half empty bag of nuts and that wild rice I bought but never used and find a tin or two. I prefer tomatoes that are canned whole rather than crushed or diced. Whenever I am at an Italian grocer, like Eataly in NYC or Mediterranean Wholesalers in Melbourne, I’ll stock up on cans of organic tomatoes ready for recipes just like this one. This recipe takes an hour to cook. Simplest (and tastiest!) Makes about 7 cups, takes 15 minutes to prep and about an hour to cook Ingredients Method Place your favourite big pot or skillet on the stove and heat oil over a medium heat.

No bake Frosty Chocolate Banana Cream Cups. Remember the Dole recipe contest I mentioned last week? I got started my entry on Sunday morning with the full intention of grilling bananas, pineapple and tempeh, but the hot weather distracted me and I ended up with cups of ice cream. I didn’t even get as far as preheating the grill! Darn you bananas and your ability to make some of the best (and easiest) dairy-free ice cream I’ve ever had. You could assemble this banana ice cream treat as a tart like the picture above, or portion out into 4 cups for cute individual treats.

I did both… because I’m awesome like that. I imagine the cups being great for birthday parties, barbecues or… lunch on a Sunday. This freshly baked skillet cookie or “skookie” couldn’t be easier! Toppings are customizable but I love to go classic with vanilla ice cream and chocolate syrup. Brown Butter Double Fudge Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Cookies. Little bit of a mouthful there. But it’s like a cookie on top of another cookie! Yeah. Like total dirty cookie on cookie action. Except these ones down below wanted to try a few different positions. I dunno… they’re all mixed up. In order to solve a common I-want-a-chocolate-CHOCOLATE-cookie-but-he-wants-a-plain-chocolate chip-cookie dilemma that happens like, every single weekend here… I made both. On top of each other. Some of them smashed up against each other while others sat on top of each other but in the end, they all tasted… fantabulous. And then they tasted extra delicious after I spent two hours cleaning out the contents of our bar (take that as you will), after he spent three hours organizing the pantry (that was weird) and after we both needed to severely eat our emotions immediately post-Boardwalk Empire finale.

WHAT was that. ??????? Why??? Then I tried to dunk a cookie in milk and failed. I need cookie dunking lessons, a redo on season 2 (thanks HBO), and a salad. Makes 24 cookies.

Death By Oreo Cupcakes. They are probably the best Oreo cakes I have ever tried. A lot of cake's that I have experimented with before are like a vanilla cake with bits of Oreo in them, which didn't really give them enough Oreo flavor. But these were a lot better. I used a dark chocolate fudge cake mix instead of just a regular chocolate cake mix, which went really well with the cookies and gave the cakes just a little more flavor.

So, in this recipe there is Oreo's in the cake, in the frosting, and at the bottom is a Oreo surprise. That's right, you put a whole Oreo at the bottom of the cake. The cookie stays firm, which makes it a little interesting to eat against the soft cake, but it actually gave a really yummy crunch. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Cream together butter and cream cheese. Foodsnots.com. Brownies. BAKED Jalapeno Poppers stuffed with Cream Cheese.

Confession. TGIF’s Cream Cheese stuffed Jalapeno Poppers are my most favorite processed food item, and I always have a box sitting in the freezer. Friends and family who are super close to me know that jalapeno poppers are my biggest weakness, obviously I eat them in moderation. After poppers, I’d have to say my next 2 favorite processed food items are Deep Foods Potato & Pea Samosas and then Mrs. Smith’s Dutch Crumble Apple Pie which I only bake on special occasions. Okay okay, that’s it! That’s seriously all the bad “processed” food I eat, the rest is usually healthy, or at least anything you can find at Whole Foods. Whenever my girlfriends come over, I ALWAYS offer them jalapeno poppers with tea… I’m beginning to think it’s just a strategy I use so I can eat them too, and a food lover loves company. Recently, I had about 10 jalapenos sitting in the refrigerator and it occurred to me to make poppers.

My version is slightly healthier since they are baked, not fried. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. Ladies (and Gents), start your ovens... Pizza Rolls. Amazing Halloween Rainbow Party Bundt Cake Recipe. Skinny Taco Dip. French bread pizza.
