Cela permet d’abonder Internet Archive de documents du « public domain » (à ne pas confondre avec « domaine public » qui a une autre signification en France), c’est à dire libres de diffusion au sens de l’Open Access. Internet Archive n’est pas (à ma connaissance) « OAI compliant » [<mise à jours> cf. le commentaire de J-C Peyssard : <mise à jours>] et, est comme les Archive Ouvertes, bien indexée par les moteurs de recherche.
